I didn't even understand what he was talking about.

1.5miles should be more like 8 minutes maybe 9 if you're out of shape.

You are one step above walking. Take every other day off and HTFU for the days you run. Take it slow and increase your distance/intensity slowly, otherwise if you weren't in the best shape beforehand you will likely have injuries. Make sure you stretch your hamstrings, as those are the tightest muscles for runners.

Just keep stretching. It's going to hurt for a while but it will get better if you keep up the running. And don't listen to the peanut gallery. Not everyone is in perfect beach body shape like those guys.

To help the shin pain, I like to do squats. Keep your knee over your heel.
Keeps the legs strong. It will burn if you're having quad pain, but again, keep stretching and keep exercising-- those are the keys.

One step above walking and light years ahead of those who havent even gotten off the couch yet. Trust me, teh days I do run I give 110% so the hardening up isnt the issue. It's teh keeping your body from falling apart from pushing it so hard that's teh key.
Injuiries have been plaqueing me for the last 8 months. I couldnt even finish 1 mile in 19 minutes then. I've shed 38 lbs since Aug. 2010 and still have another 30 to go b4 I' satisfied with my weight. Even with strectching it seems my weight is still to much with the pushing I do. But 30lbs wont come off in a weekend with out surgery!

No worries sweetie pie. I must be the last memeber of CLSB not related to Prefontain or a Kenyan track star. Even the Sumo wrestlers on teh board seem to be running a 4:30 mile!
Thanks for the advice on teh stretches. I'll give them a try.

This last test was for Lake County Indiana.

They run it diffrent than the Illinois POWER test, though I did take and pass teh Cook County test back in Nov 2010. I got a few irons in teh fire.

Indiana requires:
Sit ups
Push ups
Vertcal jump
300m sprint and teh 1.5 run.

Illinos is teh:
Sit and reach
Sit ups
Bench
1.5 run

I can bench 205 which is 10 less than my body weight for 96%

Sit and reach, I can touch my toes so that's a pass

Push ups I can do about 35 in one minute. I was clocked this past saturday for the test at 33

Sit ups I did 35 in one minute so thats another pass

the next two I had never done till this weekend.

Vertical jump was a 16" needed, I hit 20"

300M sprint was 61 sec for pass I pulled a 52sec sprint

The numbers listed were for acadamy passing, so It's nice to know I'm were I need to be.

The run is teh only one i still wanna inprove. I'm still top heavy at 210-215, but compared to were I was at 240+ my legs see the diffrence. I still got another 30 to loose and 2 minutes to shave off my time. When I ran for cook county I just made it at 16:30. So i shaved a minute iff that time this past go around. I wanna be in the mid 14's. I think thats reasonable ny the eand of the year with teh rest of this weight being taken off.

Atthe end of the day I'm hitting the requirenets of the state agencies. So if anyone has issue with that take it up with Indiana and Illinois.

I'm all good mike. I've been working with teh Dr. to make sure I don't kill myself. It's all aboutthe weight I'm still carrying and the training I'm doing. It doesnt help that when they test us it has been on every tye of terrain possible. My 1st test was 22 laps around a hard wood basketball court. This past saturday they had us run 2.5 laps around a goverment building in 40 degree weather with some rediculous wind, and that was on concrete. Tread mills and real tracks dont always get yor legs ready for sill shit liek that.

Extreme leg pain

Henderson....bro!

I'm not going to poke fun. But running shouldn't hurt that bad. If it does you are over doing it. You need to adopt a run/walk strategy. It'll allow you to put more time and distance in and let you work out long enough to lose the weight. If not start out spinning on a bike for an hour a day. When you lose enough weight to run then start. If you keep going like this you could do some permanent damage and you won't be able to get off the couch.

I've been running toward a number for the last 8 months. That number is whatever the criteria is for passing the test. Usualy what happens is about 3 weeks prior to the test I go into this freak out mode and push myself 150% to ensure I pass thus hurting myself.

Running, though I don't mind doing it, is boring. With no one in NWI to run with or partner up with it's one of those things that gets putto the side till I have to do it again.

My next PAT test is Saturday April 30th. This is just an entrance exam so the 1.5 need to be done in 18:50 but I want to be in the high 14's as a personal best. Here we are again though, I just past 1 PAT, feel like shit but now have another PAT less than 30 days away.

I know I have to keep running instead of only doing it when the test come around in order to not feel the pain anymore. I'll get there.

Just like I'll be 195 by thge time the acadamy starts in July and then 175-180 by the end of it.

Yeah running does suck. Do something else to keep the weight off in the meantime, and then you can hammer down when you need to. Going from zero to hero in a few short months with no base is pretty tough, and injuries are likely. Do something else year round like biking, spin, swimming, or gay ass elliptical to keep the weight off and keep cardio up.

Running makes my shins tighten up bad, to stretch them I kneel with the tops of my feet on the ground and sit on my heels. Like I'm knee sliding on a skate ramp. It works.

Whatever you do, don't stretch cold muscles. In fact, I bet you overstretch. As a man, who likes guns, and has testosterone and thinks that the harder and more he stretches, the better it is for you. One thing you gotta remember, is that is not how stretching muscles works. Stretches should be gentle and easy... A lot of the time when you are REALLY sore like you are now, a light easy workout will help bring fresh blood to the damaged muscles, and then you can have a good long LIGHT stretching session afterwards.

Like dis guy said, biking, swimming and elliptical are good alternatives. They suck more than running, IMO, but they are LOW impact... I'm guessing you're a heavy set guy, and your legs are taking a pounding. Sometimes running should be for the birds as we can't all be light n fit and weigh 145lbs.

ah yes indeed!

Ofc Ponch, this is actually pretty common. During my tenure at Johns Hopkins I was part of a research team that studied what was known during that time as hammieshinitis among athletes. The most well known professional athlete to have this issue was Esera Tuaolo. During his years with the Geen Bay Packers, he constantly complained of the exact issue that you are having. We studied 300 athletes who competed at a college level who experienced the same symptoms you describe. Although we couldn't pinpoint the exact cause of the problem, we were able to narrow it down to a common denominator among the participants of the study. 100% of the participants wore red clothes atleast once a week and absolutely loved sucking the cock.

Intresting... I fit only one of those 2, does that mean I should only be in thsi much pain 1/2 the time?

Also, and of those 300 how many were P.R.? we arent built like normal athletes you know, and what may affect an Afro American or Anglo will certainly be nothing to us.
