Triathlons

What races are you guys doing this year? Also does anyone have an Olympic distance they recommend?

it's not really a triathalon but i wanna do the urbanathalon and there's a couple more that i cant think of off the top of my head. 1 is where it's like an obsticle course and u get all dirty and muddy and at the end of the race you donate ur shoes. had some friends do it and say it was fun.

edit: warrior dash is 1 that i couldnt think of.

I'm doing 4 Xterra tris, Lake Zurich tri, and Bigfoot tri. LZ was easy I thought, I even got a medal from that one. Competition was slower IMO. Bigfoot was pretty big and much harder competition for sure. Great race though, and a good indicator for fitness. Swim was borderline ridiculous, and you could actually stand almost the whole way. Some people were walking. Naperville is a popular one too, but I think it's more expensive than some of the other ones.

Xterras are usually on Saturdays which sucks for me, but I'm doing it anyways. Yeah there is one in IL. It was a blast, if you like swimming in a nasty ass murky shallow culvert with logs and dead animals in it and shit. No I'm not joking. Pretty sure I got the HIV from that water.

lol just edited my post. but yea that's what i was thinkin of. looks cool. you did it last yr? how was it?

see for me, i consider myself more of "body builder" than anything. i lift and dont run as much as i should. but i'm still lean. I used to run alot back in highschool. track practice for distance/middle distance squad was like 12 miles easy everyday. and as of recently, did a police exam where i ran the mile n a half in 12 min. which is good for me seeing as that i pretty much never run. but i am going to start gettin my endurance back up for things like this....

Yep did it last year and it was OK. It's only 3 miles and the stunts aren't hard at all, but you get jammed up waiting for other slackers sometimes that hurts your times. Plus if you are in a later wave you get the muddiest stuff, so that hurts your times too. If you go to have fun, it's great. Actually it's a big party, with music playing, beer (1 free with entry), drunk bitches all over, everybody's muddy and having fun.

I need to do atleast one tri this year since I did all this fucking gay ass training. Saturdays are almost always out for me especially with my son's baseball games being on saturdays. I still haven't got off my ass to buy a roadbike either. The fuck. What the fuck made me think doing a tri was a good idea?

I'm doing the Woodridge Tri (mini/sprint) and Naperville Tri. I heard there is a Schaumburg Tri, if so I'll do that one too.

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

Lake Zurich is closed for registration so it looks like Big Foot is the winner. Chunk i'm not really interested in the sprint distance although it's probably not a bad idea to start there if I were only smart enough to realize that.... but i'm not so i'll skip the sprint.

Please note it is TRIATHLON :P Not triathAlon.

When I was in high school I designed a tshirt for High Ridge YMCA's event. No one caught it until after 150 shirts were printed....damn thing said Triathalon LOL!!

Chunk..was size bike are you? If you are in a bind and want to do a triathlon on a roadbike I would offer mine up. Its not super pimp CP style, but it rolls Hell between being sick, going to the ER, and now baby #3 being here I'm still on an almost 3 month layoff from anything resembling a workout LOL

My kid did her first tri this year in WI last weekend, and balled it up on the bike portion pretty good. Roadrash all over her knee and elbow, brings me back to my careless street motorcycle riding. She said it was crazy windy, and she was going down a big hill hauling ass and the wind just upset the bike and sent her into a speed wobble and she bailed. She's OK and still in good spirits, and was more upset because she didn't finish the race.

Yeah it did. Crashing on pavement in your underwear is no fun. I thought it would be much worse, but really the worst parts are her elbow and knee. Everything else is kind of OK. I'll be posting pics on Facebook when I get a chance. Her knee was bleeding down to her shoe. She said she looked like she was in a horror movie. Still went to practice last night and outran Jana.

Yep my mistake, it's on the 22nd. Gonna do it? That one was the best Xterra race IMO. You gotta bump up your swimming though. That race had two short laps instead of one big one, so if you need to regroup it's possible. But you still have to swim the laps.

Well I planned on doing the XTerra on June 4th at Scales Lake but I don't think my swimming will be up to par by then.
