Recommend some "clipless platform" pedals?

I have some classic Egg Beater pedals on my stumpjumper (setup for urban MTB), which are fine when I want to go out for a real ride...but lately I've been wanting to just jump on the bike for a quick ride, sometimes with the dog, and the shoes/clipless pedals are a pain.

Anyone have any suggestions for some good clipless platforms that won't break the bank? I was looking at the crank brothers platforms which are basically egg beaters *in* a platform, but they are uncomfortable as the eggbeater sticks up so high above the platform.

Thoughts?

it's your shoes mang. I've got some 661 shoes that are like skate shoes that I wear with my eggbeater candys for trail riding and cruisin the hood looking for crack.

I bought the cheapo Forte combo pedals from Performance Bike:

They're ok...held up fairly well except for a good dent in one of them courtesy of a big log. Can't beat the price!

The Egg Beater Mallet was what I was looking at where the egg beater itself stuck up a lot. I've not seen a Candy in person. I'll have to swing by a shop and look at some tonight.

Thanks.
