Then we can eat Doritos while doing backstroke for munchies.

The water should be close to 70deg if not warmer so wetsuits would be totally optional and probably unnecessary.

I am by no means interested in swimming but WILL come down and throw chunks of concrete at you whilst you are mid stroke......

We swim over to the other beach and back, which I believe is 1.5 miles or so. No run? Pussy. Remember, race your strengths and train your weaknesses! No excuses! We'll be going slow for 4 miles out and 4 back, total of 8. Go out for 2 and do 2 back.

Yeah we just leave our crap there with about 50 other people. If you don't leave them sitting on top of your laptop and iPhone you should be OK. I just put them in a shoe as to not be obvious, and I only bring the one key. After the swim we hustle back to the cars to change and get ready to run.

I've been trying to bike and run more than anything. Running feels better, but biking is still kicking my ass and making my legs feel like they are on fire!! :P

So Ohio Street Beach to Oak Street beach and back? Cool I think I can handle that...just don't go all Half Ironman on me and leave me behind for the fish.

If Oak street beach is the one to the North, then yes. Last year we swam to North Ave. beach, and that was a loooooooooong way and boring as shit. We all leave together, then swim our own swim, then regroup at the other end, then swim back. I am definitely gonna go IM on your ass! I gotta kick up my swimming a bit, and exploit my new breakthrough last week. Todd is actually pretty fast, as he used to swim in HS 500 free, so he should be out front a bit. Scott will be in the back getting his little toes nibbled at by fish and swimming at a sloth's pace, if a sloth could swim. You'll be fine.

I thought Todd was joking when he told me he swam in HS during our kettle ride.

I don't really think those two things translate. There's too many varying condition between open water and pool swimming....do you swim straight, waves, current, etc. It's probably not far off, but I'm not sure if you can just do some simple conversation and add XXXx.xxx seconds to OWS stuff.

You guys wearing wetsuits or speedos? :P

Park at the end of Ohio street, or around the corner. $6 til 10am.

Not sure yet. I gotta ask her and see. Her swim was 30 minutes in the half, and she was chillin'. No idea why you are having issues on your swim. Though my help will be limited, I'll do what I can if she isn't there. She is doing Madison IM so I'm not sure what her schedule is like.

Yeah me too, until he beat me last year in the swim by a little bit in his first Xterra, and then I grilled him.

Cool..thanks for the info.

As much as I used to do OWS when I was a lifeguard and during college I never drove to any of these places. I'll be rockin the sleeveless wetsuit to test out.

There's a deal on a Profile Design Wahoo full suit size "M" if anyone is looking for one. Get a Grip Cycles has it in stock and is blowing it out. They sold me my sleeveless for just under $100 MSRP tag was $180ish.

If it's hot, I'll be sleeveless too. I like that one better than the full suit I have, but I'm not sure which one is faster yet.

I'll rock the full sleeve. It's all I got. I'm buying a sleeveless soon though. I think I'd like the extra freedom in the arms. I'd still get full though if it was the only suit I could have. I think the full suit allows for more use around here. The water temps are warm enough for sleeveless very little time out of the year in this area.

Just trying stuff on the full feels way to restrictive. I returned a suit I bought through Amazon and bought the same brand/model sleeveless at Get a Grip Cycles (support your dealers :P).

Not sure about temps, but the sleeveless felt 100x better than the full suit on my shoulders. Plus you can show off yer muskles better LOL

Much less restrictive, that is the first thing I noticed, plus my arms don't feel as heavy. But the full suit has little ridges on the arms to help grab water, so I really don't know which is faster. I would rather SWIM with the sleeveless for sure, but in races, I want to know which is faster.

My wife was a competitive swimmer in high school. She felt pretty restricted too when she tried some suits on. We finally went to Endure it and they had one that fit her perfect and didnt feel restrictive. She got to swim in their endless pool with it before we bought it. That was worth the extra money we spent on it for sure.

I have read and been told by several coaches (swimming not tri) that if all things are equal the full suit should be faster, but the difference might only be 1% or less. That also assumes the full suit is a perfect fit. If not then that 1% advantage is negated.

They also noted that most Olympic swimmers still used the sleeveless race suit in pools because range of motion felt better than full. Even with the advantage it was giving they wore sleeveless styles. Most of those suits are illegal now so fuggit.

There's an article online some Tri coach posted where he did some wetsuit tests..swam 400s without, then with different ones...

He agrees their are faster
full marginally faster then sleeveless

But also said any benefits are negated when you are in the mix of peeps in open water.

Either way sleeveless just looks better so that's all that counts!

That is what I would guess, which is why I went with the full suit for the HIM. And mine must fit perfect, because it is tight as a sausage casing and takes me a few minutes to squeeze into it.

Still funny thinking about the wetsuit being on backwards! LOL

Ideally I think full and sleeveless would be perfect to own Too bad there aren't sleeveless moto race leathers for the street to flex!
