Ha. Well between work, school, 3 kids under 5 I only get in about 3 workouts/week. Heck tonight will be my first run over 4 miles. Lol

Next year I'll do the Olympic distances. z

Nice job dude. Don't bother with swimming work too much, just work on your running. That is gonna hurt you more than anything.

What were you saying before? Know your strengths and train your weaknesses? Basically I will probably cut out one of my swims a week and add a run or bike. Hard when its friggin 100 degrees out! Sunday morning I might try to do a 15mile ride then run a few miles. I am willing to be my legs explode or implode.

No jackass, pay attention! Race your strengths, and train your weaknesses! You are already fast in swimming, so just maintain that once a week, and concentrate on your weaknesses. If you suck more on running versus biking then do more of that before the race. No excuses either, if I can do a 12 mile run in 90 degrees, you can do a few miles in the early AM when it's only 75. HTFU!

As with most on this forum I have adult ADD :P

So on the actual day of the triathlon I pack a bag full of my crap...biking shoes, towel, etc. In the morning I just lay all this stuff out somewhere in the transition area? Do they assign you one?

Yeah, for this one I don't think you want to forget anything and head back to the car. Pack everything up in a backpack and lay it all out in order of necessity, i.e. bike stuff in front of run stuff. They should assign you a spot by racing number in transition.

This race is a logistical nightmare! Lol

Best bet is to park underground at the grant north lot. Pack everything up and bring it to transition. You may or may not have quite bit of time before your wave goes off. So it's a crap shoot as far as being able to go back to the car. Transition spots are not assigned. You will be assigned a rack and it's a free for all as far as what spot on the rack is yours. Double check your area right before they close transition. There are a lot of disrespectful people at this one. Don't be surprised if someone throws your stuff around.

If you even think you have to go to the bathroom stand in line. There are never enough port a johns to accommodate all the racers and spectators here. If they have them in transition use them there. It's a bit of a walk to the start from transition so make sure you have time for that to.

Oh.......and have fun! lol

Thanks for all the tips. Sounds like it is going to be nuts, but it should be a painful blast any way

I need to make friends with whoever runs the downtown CPD bike unit that works out of Grant Park. Then I can park wherever they do :P

I believe Chicago is the biggest participant triathlon in the world. Whenever you get this many people in one venue it's bound to have some problems. To be honest, the Naperville tri isn't too far behind.

Looks like I'm in for this one. Had a friend get hurt and couldn't use his entry. See ya all out there. I hope the young guns can keep up with this old man. I think I'm in the 35-40 age group, or maybe even 30-35, not sure yet.

I don't know yet. I don't know how old he is. I gotta see what the deal is for picking up packets. If you have to show ID or what. I think he might be 35-39. All I know is this will be my best Oly tri ever. Assuming my calf pain goes away, I have pretty good fitness right now. Hopefully my swim doesn't suck too.

My email says this...

"***NOTE: ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST PICK UP THEIR OWN RACE PACKET. This includes ALL MEMBERS of relay teams. You must show up in person and bring a photo ID to pick up. No one will be allowed to have another person pick up their packet for them. NO EXCEPTIONS. This is official USA Triathlon policy, and also the policy of the Chicago Triathlon.***"
