Hot Chocolate 15K 11-5-11

Who is in for this? Who wants a late year goal to keep running? Who wants to kick ass and get their ass kicked? Who wants fucking CHOCOLATE!!! Me!!!!

This will be my late year longer race to gear up for a possible marathon in early 2012. I'm sure I'll beat last year's result (7:57 pace), but not sure by how much. I'd like to kill a half minute off that pace at least, if not more. By the way, 15K is a little more than 9 miles.

I'd be up for it. There will also be a run up the Sears tower coming sometime late this year or early next year. I'd be up for doing that too.

That stair climb is somewhat expensive IIRC. I wanted to do it, but I remember it being ridiculously priced for what it was.

I'm in for the 15k. I hope I can match last year's 7:40 pace.

I think my fiance is running the 5k, too.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

That was pretty damn tasty.

If I don't get some more speed you'll definitely beat me. You're already running your 10 miles faster than I am.

You said that last year too. I am hoping to just have a solid race and set my own PR. I'll be happy with that.

Its funny, I've been running quite a bit for the last year and haven't been able to repeat that time for that distance. My running buddy says its because I was amped for the race and drafting.

Yeah maybe. I usually run faster in races on the bike, but it's hit or miss for running.

Not sure yet. We were talking about possibly the Las Vegas marathon. I gotta see if I'm still in business then first. Assuming I have money, I wouldn't mind doing that one. It would keep me running throughout the winter knowing I have a goal ahead. I know Scott's dad has a place out there. How do you invite yourself tactfully?

My wifes Aunt lives there. I would love to run there. When am I gonna be cool enough that you include me in these plans! Lol

Hans and I did the Illinois marathon last year. It was a great run and nice kick off to the season. It really paid off for my running. It ends on the 50 yard line of the U of I stadium. That's one to think about locally. I think it's called the Christie Clinic Marathon Now.

Bah!!!! Maybe I'll go on my own! Screw you too cool for school mofos!! . I just use my high roller status to stay in a hip Vegas suite and hang out with all the hotties by the posh pools!

I'd actually like to qualify for the national HIM championships in Vegas. It'll be A LOT of hard work on my part to get where I need to be though.

Chunk, you need to do at least one sprint tri before attaining any type of baller status!

I'd love to qualify for that too, but it is tough. We were hanging out with a guy from Canada who just qualified, and his time was 4:40. 24mph in the bike, killer swim, and ridiculous run. It's tough.

I know what it takes. I also know it's a good possibility I won't be where I need to be next year to do it. But it's a goal to shoot for whether this year, next, or I never make it.

A guy I know was helping me devise a plan a couple weeks ago. Thank God I log every time I blow snot! lol. He was able to look through my logs and give me some REALLY solid advice on how to get there!

He qualified this year at VIneman with a f'n 4:17!!!!!!!!!

I figure I'll do what I can, when I can. Between family, work, and everything else, I can't expect to compete with guys that don't have most of what I have. Plus some of these guys have been running most of their lives and didn't learn to swim last year. I'll keep progressing at my own pace, so whatever that is it is. I would love to qualify too though.

I don't think you have any idea how much time I put in on this in the last 12 months! Lol. Not that it matters, all that does is race day performance. My training is nailed down solid as far as time goes. I figured out how to put in lots of time. What I need is first, to be able to include more selfish training outside of groups at my own pace, and secondly, to be able to recover from those efforts better. Maybe you haven't been running your whole life but if you remember correctly I'm only a 3-4 years off the couch and being an overweight slug!

It is what it is, but that's te goal in the back of my head. Besides, you never know if you're in a race and several people that qualify turn it down, if you put in a solid time your number can come up! I think some people not too much under 5 hours made it at Racine this year. That gives us hope.

Oh yeah I realize how much time you put in, and I would never be able to come up with that much time with a kid and this job during the spring/summer. So I can only do what I can do.

Yeah I realize the spots carry down, and I'm sure some day I will qualify if I stay with it for sure. Hell, I qualified for USAT Nationals this last tri pretty easily. Once my running gets better and I get some aero wheels I should be where I need to be. I will plan on an early 70.3 next year to dust off the motivational salts in me.

I still think you would cry if you saw my logs!! Lol

I'm planning the same. Maybe rev3 louiseville early. Then do an Olympic or two during training to stay fresh. Go back to Racine and hammer! If I'm close I'll go to Branson and try again. Otherwise just go at it again next the following season.
