Whoa, that's early. How far do you swim, and will I be able to easily stop mid swim? I've never done open water swimming, so I'm sure I won't have the pace/endurance as you.

Last few times I went out there I went to Oak Street beach and back. I haven't been in OW since last year so I'm not sure how far I'll go this time. It's pretty easy to turn back though and you can stand most of the way.

Depending on the water temp, I might go on Sunday. I don't have a wetsuit.

I still don't have a wetsuit and will be running a 5k saturday morning. Sorry man.

FYI, changed the title for this week. Going down there at 6am for sure. Parking is definitely an issue after that.

No problem. Warm as hell. I was super warm in my wetsuit when I was there, and it's even warmer now.

How's this place on the weekend? would this be a better OWS option than the lakefront?

No idea on the weekends. It costs $5 every swim, and it's not very big, but it works. Swimming in Lake Michigan adds some waves to deal with and practice with, running along the lakefront is better with all the hotties to check out, and it's just a nicer way to spend a morning. LITH works though during the week when you don't have as much time or to get a quick swim in.

Which one Pat? Leone? On June 28 the water temp at the buoy was 69deg. That's warm.

If yes, you might have to chat with the Captain or Mate on duty. I worked there and it's not that easy to do a long open water swim there. The lifeguards won't really let you passed their boats.

My buddy is the Captain there and would probably let us do an OWS from right off Touhy if I talk with him.

Gimme my damn wetsuit back first!! :P

Loyola park, at the end of Morse. There are two walls about .2mi apart and it looks like a sandbar between both. I was hoping I could just tell the lifeguards I'll be out there and not get any guff. I was in the water last Sunday and it was freezing. I didn't go in above my knees.

I already sold your wetsuit on eBay

That's still under Leone's lifeguards. If you ask they might let you. Post up when you might go and maybe I can head that way or see if my buddy is working.

The only laps I did since last year have been at Mandalay Bay and some strip clubs :P

I'd say no. With current temps a few days ago at 69 it's probably at least that warm. I'm pretty sure a few times we swam last year at Ohio St. it was 65 or less and Erz didn't wear a wetsuit.

edit..

OK I just check in with my buddy. Ohio St is 72 today and Leone is 71! Fak that is hot for lake swimming

You've got yourself quite the training partner there dude! Nice!

I may go do the Joliet Metric Century with Anne tomorrow morning. Anne has had some issues lately and hasn't been on the bike more than once this year. We'll probably do the 30 or 40 mile ride if you two are interested in coming out. I doubt Anne will be able to do it more than 16-17 mph though. I'd tuck her into a draft but she's got a fear of being too close to other bikers.

I'm pretty sure I'm going up to Racine. I'm planning on just going through the motions just to get some more race experience under my belt. I'm a little injured and not where I want to be, but I figure it can't hurt to grab the experience and move on to next year at this point. After that, we need to get back to some MTB'ing and do some trail runs!!!

Heading up to Lake Geneva tomorrow to chill instead. Might go for a run early tomorrow though. We did Palos on Saturday and it was great. Was planning on a trail run afterwards, but I fuggered up my calf after my chain slipped off while pedaling hard and the pedal came around and hammered the back of my leg. It's black and blue. I thought I tore it and could barely walk. It's fine now, but man I was worried.
