Chicago Half Sept 8

...anyone doing the Chicago Half this year? I'm signed up. It's been a while since I visited so I figured I'd make that my race this year. Plus the Houston half sucks.
Also curious for insight from anyone who has done it. I'll be staying downtown; what's the best way to get down there on race day?

Ugh 13.1 miles....maybe, the furthest I have run is 13 miles (not kidding) its the 0.1 that is the killer I hear.

I would say the train, that's what we did for the Chicago Marathon, worked out great. If I do it, that's IF I do it, Diane could drive us down.

Sometimes goodbye is your second chance.

I try to keep my downtown races at a minimum. All the costs and logistics piss me off. Good luck though!

I will be staying in River North with a friend. I could have her drive me but I'm mostly curious if that will be more problematic than taking the el. But then I'm also thinking the el might be sketchy so early in the morning, plus it's like a 10 block walk to the nearest stop.
I usually don't run large races so I am not sure what to expect. I did a Komen race one year and hated it because of the size. But I needed some motivation this year, and the smaller races don't give me that.

There's always one grenade in the bunch. Maybe it's you?

I ran the Chicago half last year and drove in from the south burbs that morning. Traffic wasn't too bad over by the event and my wife dropped me off about 1/2 hour before the start of the race....all was good. The only high traffic area was at the toilets, the lines were long and many people were getting quite nervous they would miss their start (probably those starting at the front). My wife was able to find street parking only a few blocks away and parked and then came over and hung around too see me finish and the post race "party". It was a pretty organized event all in all and although quite a few runners (not sure of the total), the logistics were pretty smooth.

Good luck!...the weather last year was great.

Thanks! I'm praying for cool weather, but will be training down here in 90-100 degrees so I hope to be unfazed if it's a bad day!
