I'm dreading this marathon, going to make parking in my area a bitch and a half. Anyone know a link to a sight with the run route and parking restrictions?

I've updated my intro message to reflect the link (www.chicagomarathon.com) which includes the course map, etc.

Best of luck! I did it back in '97. Luckily Chicago is considered one of the flatest and fastest marathons in the world. Awesome crowds along Mich Ave. around the halfway point that really ge you moving again.

If you want some tips - Drink at least 2 cups of gatoraide at every station and eat a bar of puhc of goo at least once. Get there early and line up at least 1 minute ahead of the "marker" that designates yoru pace. Otherwise you'll be passing strollers and slow people all day long. Your better off being cold in the mornign that overheatign in the afternoon as you start ot dehydrate. Underdress slightly... it's going to be almost 70 in the afternoon.

Whatever you do just keep jogging.... don't stop. as soon as you stop, you'll struggle like hell to start going again. The last 6-8 miles are a real test of your commitment. Just keep telling your self "I've gone this far.. I can't stop now" or "dammit...I paid my $40 (?) entry fee... I'm sure as hell going to finish and get my money's worth."

Good luck again.

PS - don't plan on being able to walk up any stairs on Monday.... or even get out of bed.

It's $75, or at least it was when I did it in 2002.

I will agree with Mike as far as the advice, but the most important thing is to KEEP RUNNING!!! Even if you have to barley jog, do not start walking! You will not be able to get your legs moving again after about 12 miles. I will tell you that the first 5 miles or so are a breeze... the next 6 or 7 or ok... From about mile 18 to about 24 suck. DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED!! Keep at it, and keep those legs moving! The last mile or two under McCormick place and down Lake Shore will get you so pumped!! It's an amazing feeling! I'm going to train to do it again next year (going against what I told myself two years ago after my first one - but it's like a tattoo... it's adictive!)

Good luck, and listen to your body!

<-------- Jeff

Okay guys...just returning to the land of the living. I finished the race (barely w/out walking). Turned in a 5:05. Not too bad for my first time. It was definitely a blast. Once the pain subsides, I'll let you know if I'll do it again next year.

What's so funny is that the guy who won the race (Evans Rutto) finished at 2:06...he could have run it twice and still clobbered me

Thanks for all the shout outs!!!
