last time i ran a race was in '99. 10k. I about keeled over. Some fisherman on the lakefront came to my rescue at about the 9 kilo mark and tossed me a miller lite. From then on I chose only to run when chased.

good luck to you!

Done it the last 2 years and will be there again this year (it's about time to start training for the run this week...man, it's cold out there today). It's a lot of fun. Wondering who the band is that will be playing? Poi Dog was there the last couple of years. Doesn't sound like they'll be back from what I see.

I've done this for the past four years. Its a BLAST!

Line up behind some nice hieny and just cruise along.....the miles just fly on by.

Like Vcook, the first year I ran it I almost died too. My legs were all sore for like a week. But, proper training since then has made it much more tolerable.

Its good motivation to keep the pounds off (since I hate running otherwise) so signing up for the race and committing $$$ to it keeps me focused.

Chris,

I'm surprised you weren't on this a long time ago.......they're expecting over 20K folks I believe......That's a lot of girls (I mean runners) in skimpy outfits with a live band and free beer afterwards

I just started my training today (actually I just came in from a run to the Shedd). So get on that treadmill or come on outside. I think there is a training consultant for this 8K (there might be a link from the main site...if not, Hal Higdon is the guy at HalHigdon.com). You can get away with as little as 3 runs/week.

i've already downloaded and printed the entire 8 week training program for novices. I'm going to do it. I'll check with my wife tonight to see if she wants to too before I register. Thanks for bringing this up guys, I work best with a goal(even if its something I hate doing)!!

I admire folks that can do those long distance runs. I still remember that Olympic run in Greece a few years ago, I almost fell out watching them do that. At least in Chicago it will be cool around that time . Good luck to all who will participate. Maybe I can volunteer to be a motorcycle camera man following you guys .

Hmm. I've been doing 5Ks on the treadmill pretty easily lately. I might be down for 8, especially if there's YWBs and free beer.
