Universal Sole 5.25 Mile Trail Run (11/12/06)

For a little off road running action sign up for the super fun Universal Sole "Rock n Sole" 5 Mile Trail Run.

Details:
When: Sunday November 12, 2006
Time: 9 am
Where: Schiller Woods Grove #4 (Irving Park and Cumberland Ave - near O'Hare Airport)

Link to Full Details:
http://www.universalsole.com/events/rocknsole.htm

This race is a lot of fun. Though it's not a chipped race there are other perks like tons of food afterwards (warm oatmeal, smoothie drinks, etc.) and a Goose Island Beer Post Race Party (and yes, a lot of beer). They also have some of the best technical shirts, provided with your entry fee, that I've ever seen. Also, you can sign up for 3 person co-ed teams (self-name your team) that compete against each other. There might even be a creek crossing during the race as well

I'm actually off that day. If we get a team together I'm in.

This race is a blast. It's a smaller event (no bottlenecks) and it's in a forest preserve so you can lock up your stuff in your car at the parking lot (better yet...wait until the last minute or so...undress outer gear...lock it up....start the race. This way you stay as warm as possible for as long as possible).

Remember, the only hitch with the team comp is that it must be co-ed. We went as "The Warriors" last year...."Warrrriioorrrsss, come out and plllaaayyyyy"

PS No "Good for one beer" tickets either...just drink until the kegs run out.

PPS I usually bring the MTB to tool around the trails aftwerwards. It's no Palos but some nice flat and fast rolling turf w/ some nice ups and downs.

Keep me informed on this. I would be down for this. with teams does everybody run the whole 5.25 miles? Shit, I haven't ran that far in ages. My two mile time on Sunday was 15:30 though. I was pretty happy with that.

yes, if you check their site the whole team runs the course. The team member's respective place finishes are added up and the team with the lowest number wins, dig?

I'm sure they'll be okay. Unless we are running on some really rough shit like out in the desert a regular running shoe will do. I'm going to be wearing mine.

You have to love their marketing department. I've run it the last 2 years and the only way it will have some mud is if it rains - even the creek crossing can be avoided...somewhat And no, it did not snow the last 2 years. However, it's not for no wusses

PS Regular shoes will be just fine.

PPS You guys got any team names yet?

No clue..how far is that in miles, 3.8 or so? I ran 2 miles in 15:30 this weekend, but I wasn't pacing myself for more than that. That pace is pretty damn good.

Just signed up. Total cost b/f 11/12 will be $31.93. The first 300 registrants receive a slick Pearl Izumi Technical T-Shirt (very cool brand) but even the regular shirts are pretty cool. I'll post up some pics of recent ones if I can.

Don't forget to read the details...this is a 5.25 Mile run (not 5K). But don't let that deter you...trail running is different than road running. Some of it will be easier, some of it harder. Just settle in and enjoy the ride. We need more women to join if we are going to come up off some teams - they've got to be coed.

And definitely, nobody is seriously breaking any records or trying to rain down on anyone else's time. This is meant to run a different kind of race and have some fun doing it. You can jump over logs, bounce off trees, or kick up some dust/mud if you want...just rip it and have some fun

Any race with trophies like this has gotta be cool (included is an action clip from last year).

You ran 7.16 miles in 22 minutes and 27 seconds? Thats an average of 3.something mile. Isnt the world record like 3:4something?

Youre uber fast
