Who Mountain Bikes?

I picked up a sweet ass mountain bike this past weekend and want to hit the trails over by Rt. 83 and 171. Who here mountain bikes?

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

I do. I get out a few times a week in good weather to Knoch Knolls in Naperville.

You should set up a ride on a weekend. I'll let you lead then I'll pass you.... KIDDING!!!!!!

Hey Jon, let's set a day aside and go riding.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

Crapped in a coffee can with a few dozen people walking by you while the wind is howling and the snow is falling and you feel your pecker shrink into your torso like a frightened turtle.

Only then does it count.

Bullfrog lake parking lot?

I want to start this summer, I haven't in so long! I have a nice prairie path that is like 2 minutes from my house too. I was actually just talking about this like 2 days ago. I think this weekend I am going to go look at some moutain bikes.

I was thinking more of 11 AM "kickstands up". I will need to eat breakfast and let it digest.

How about 10 AM?

When you say Palos, are you talking about Rt. 83 south over the bridge, take a left and go a few miles down, then take a right to get to BullFrog?

Remember to be courtious and not ride on the trails at Palos if its really muddy. People put a lot of work into those trails. I'm willing to bet it is not rideable this weekend with how soupy everything is.

The usual start time is 10:30 if the weather permits. I did a few rides with Nick and Rachel at Palos. Hans came out for one of them.

WSE, start another thread in the group rides section. If you want an 11am start time I'm cool with that. It'll just be more crowded. And Bullfrog Lake is the usual meet point.

You know I mountain bike.
Here's me loading my sweet Trek. I love it more than my motorcycle. Unfortunately, I only hit the trails 3 times last year -- one of our planned rides was after my best friends batchelorette party -- and Chills was still expecting me to go!

Realistically speaking, I think the Kettle would be a better bet. Palos can't drain rainwater worth shit. Kettle is much better this time of year.

good timing. I actually pulled my mtn bike off the garage ceiling today with the intent of riding as cardio, along with some trail action on weekends. I've been told that Brown County state park, just next door to B-town, is some REALLY good riding.

I can hear air hissing when I load and unload my shocks. Is that bad? They don't feel any different than pre-winter storage.

And yes, Rachel did come out once to ride with me and was witness to me going ass over head over my handlebars.

It was after that she stopped coming on rides with me.

Did you store it upside down, if so some oil made it's way into the top of the sanction (sp?). Air is hissing when it squeezes by. No big deal, it will go away with use. Or maybe it has always been there and you never noticed, it happens.

Depends on the model...most hiss when compressed. Worry about it when it compresses and won't return.

Bicycle forks aren't built to very tight tolerances like motorcycle forks. Almost every stock fork leaks oil, even when brand new.

And I don't ride anymore, but I work on them all day.
