Energy drinks?

What do ya'll drink prior to hitting the gym, if any? A few times i've had a Monster but i felt cracked out afterwards, then a buddy of mine introduced No-Xplode, tried it out Tuesday, was so so, was able to do back/bi's (7? machines total), 20 min treadmill, and 30min on the elliptical?, felt good afterwards. Anything i should look out for, i.e; side effects, long term health issues (i'd read the label but it's not with me ATM). TIA. Any suggestions are welcome.

Don't get addicted to energy drinks.. just eat normally. Make sure you eat about 1.5 hours before you go but not anytime after that. Sleep is the only energy you need. I been working out pretty consistently for about 8 months now. I was 'cracked' out on sugar free red bull for awhile.

Long term effects are kidney damage... that shiiet really puts a toll on your kidneys. One suggestion is that you have a nice 30-40 G protein shake 15 mins after your weight workout.

I'm not really lifting heavy right now.. just trying to drop lbs.. so I do cardio like 5 times a week and lift twice (upper and lower).

I drank Endurox R4 while on Mt McKinley. 1 Nalgene each day of climbing.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

+1

I drink plenty of fresh brewed tea, eat vitamins and fruits, lotsa meat (I know that's an issue of its own but I can't help gnawing on a charcoal grilled steak with some Sweet Baby Rays) and protein from other non-meat sources. I have a shit-ton of energy. Better read the label of what "energy drink" you are sucking down, if it has a ton of garbage that you can't pronounce than it can't be good for you. I had some Rohnin energy drink up in WI and it tasted like $#*^ but had no preservatives, garbage or high fructose corn syrup.

Hmmm, i guess im going about this the wrong way, although i have noticed some change (i can use the 4th hole on my belt now! ). In any case, here's my schedule:

Tuesday - Back/Bi's / Cardio
Thursday - Shoulders/Chest/Whatever else i can fit in there / Cardio
Friday - Stomach/Back/Tri's / Cardio
Saturday - Mix / Cardio

I don't eat anything before i go, i usually get to the gym about 5:30ish, leave around 7:30pm, lunch is either 12 or 1, and most times i don't eat dinner, mebbe a granola bar or something, or if im really hungry i just fugg it and eat whatever, small servings though. I cut down on rice ( A LOT!), no pop, smaller servings, not into junk food or sweets, although i do have my days. been doing this for close to a month now, my weight fluctuates a lot but the highest loss so far to date is 15lbs. I've hit the gym with no drinks before, felt ok but i was worn out afterwards. What should i be doing that i'm not? Also, the enrgy drink isn't for motivation, it's mainly for energy, hence the enrgy drink thread. My motivation is the poon.

I just like water.

Pickle Juice is suposed to have benefits.

For hangovers Pedilite works much faster than anyother drink except for Bloody Marys

Eat something 1-1 1/2 hours prior working out for a week and your body won't need an energy drink at that point.

And not a granola or protein bar either, something like a piece of chicken with some bread.

Seems like your not eating enough. You would actually lose more weight FASTER, if you ate more often during the day (every 2-3 hours), albeit small portions.

I used to just buy packages of chicken, cook them in the morning and carry them around in ziplock bag with a piece of bread to eat every 2 hours.

You still have to eat if you want to lose weight

Are you trying to lose weight or build muscle? doing both at the same time is extremely hard. If you're trying to build muscle... cut down on your cardio. You're diong too much. If you're trying to lose wieght/tone up/build the pack
Keep the same amount of cardio but you don't need to concentrate on certain muscle groups like you're program is doing. Do more circuit training, high rep exercises and for gods sake add lower body exercises...
Might I suggest that at the end of your run, once or twice a week do 4 - 5 minutes of on/off sprinting. 30 seconds on.. 30 seconds off for 4-5 minutes... (i.e. 9.0-11.0 mph for 30 secs then 6.0 30 secs) rinse repeat. Sprinting cuts you up fast man.. I just started doing that and it feels like the fat is melting off me.

What use is a 6 pack and tone arms with chicken legs..

You are not eating enough before you workout.. make sure you eat an hour or hour and a half before you hit the gym and then something immediately after your weight workout. Those big ass goons at the gym aren't carrying their shakes around for nothing.

People hate on NO Xplode but I like it. It's a bit expensive, but I do feel like I get good pumps out of it. In the end, it's really just a bunch of caffeine.

Nice, thanks Greg. My main focus is weight loss, but i want to bulk up a bit, just for strength then i'll work on the cutness afterwards. And my legs are fine (says my gf) so i don't work on them much. And Ed, that shits only on the weekends..

Don't do chest and shoulders on the same day. Do tris/back and bis/chest same day but shoulders should be done seperate because your working them secondary when you do chest.

This doesn't really make sense. If you work your chest (bench press), you'll be hammering your triceps as well. Same thing for working your back. The majority of back exercises work your biceps.

Endless, I lost 70lbs over the winter. Cardio 3 times a week and lifting 3 days a week. I started with a 2 day split for lifting. Upper body twice a week and lower once. Once I got back into decent shape I switched to a 3 day split. Push/Pull/Legs. Let me know if you're interested in either routine.

Whatever you do, get the big 3 in your routine. Deadlift, squats and bench press.

LOL, i'm just joshin ya. Keyhole, PM me the routine, i'll take any help i can get! Though, i don't work with freeweights since i mostly go alone and no spotters (i'm weak), so mostly machines. The guy that gave me the No Xplod just started working out with me this Tuesday, he used to work out but stopped due to f'd up rotator cuffs.

The only lift I truly need a spot for is the bench press. If my buddy isn't with me there is always someone around willing to give a spot.

I'll shoot them over to you.
