Xsport vs Bally's

Being a member of both (letting my Bally's membership expire if it hasn't already). I can now compare the two clubs after a few months of being an Xsport member. I must say that even though Xsport is more trendy with their internet connection, rock climbing wall, etc...what makes it better than Bally's to me is quite simple. No waiting. I've lifted at plenty of Bally's and there's always a wait for machines. In the city it's even worse where you have to make an appointment for cardio machines...go figure. At X, I have yet to wait for a bench or squat rack, and I'm there at peak hours. The pool and hot tub are clean...compared to what I've sat in at Bally's. The floors are clean, the machines seem to be fixed in a much more reasonable amount of time. Toss in basketball courts and I'm a happy camper.

The downers are of course that the rates are higher (I pay $28 a month vs around $10 at Bally's), the staff seems a bit more "we're so hot", the announcements every 20 minutes to buy a product or tan, get annoying if you forget your headphones at home...but all that seems to be worth it to get a parking spot within half a mile of the door, and be in and out of a clean club in reasonable time without having to wait for a machine to free up and then worry about it being there when I leave to get a sip of water.

Also a special note...seems to be less old dudes who do that naked one leg up on the bench thing drying themselves right next to you.

LOL to the naked old dudes...

There use to be a signup sheet for treadmills at the webster ballys in LP, no longer though. I've been working out there for a few years now, as well as the Ballys in morton grove. I've been a guest to the north ave Xsport though and i'm pretty impressed. Not impressed enough to pay 4 X more a month.

I travel a lot for work so I've been to almost every type of gym in almost every major city in this country. I belong to a Powerhouse, I mean Xsport and I really like the place. I pay 262 a year, the place is almost never crowded and they have dumbells up to 150 lbs, I really enjoy looking at them and pretending I could pick them up.

Plus, there is lots of "talent" walking around.

I agree with Biggy's reasons.
But a big factor for me choosing Xsport over Bally's was the hours. Xsport is open 24 hours as opposed to Bally's 6-10/11pm. Not that I'm going to work out at 2am, but I have been there til 1am and knowing that I can finish my workout at my pace is great.

We refer to that as the 'BANCMP' (Butt Ass Nekkid Captain Morgan Pose) . I go to Bally's in MG, usually pretty packed between the hours of 5-7, and there is a wait for some machines, but it ain't that bad. Plus, there are different areas with teh same machines anyways so there's hardly any waiting, unless mr super buff ass is doing 10 sets of 25 lol. The treadmill/eliptical (sp) is a diff story though, but, when it is packed i usually work out on my stomach which is right next to it, so that way i can keep an eye on the area. THe only benefit i see with going to Xsport is the fact that it's open 24 hours, i think.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention. In the locker rooms, the mirrors are on the side of the lockers, so, when i go in there to check out my washboard abs, the dudes changing think i'm checking them out and shit lol. That's 1 thing they need to change IMO.

I bought my Ballys membership in 1990... I think I pay a hundo a year to renew. Back then, I worked out at Cumberland. Now, I like the one in Northbrook... opens at 5:30 am, clean towels and showers. And no wait for the elliptical!

It's their flagship store now - the newest equipment, the best trainers, etc. etc. At least that was the case about 2 years ago when I used to go there.

I need to find a good gym by me. I just moved and the 2 closest are $60 a month and $45 a month..

I miss my old company that simply paid for my gym membership

Huh? The one on Dempster and Waukegan? They used to get the old stuff from the Deerfield club...I'd go there sometimes and recognize old machines

Probably nothing. Management change and then continue. How many times would this be now for them of being in financial trouble?

MG Bally's has a few new machines, not many. I'm just surprised that MG uses the oldschool weights vice Deerfield, which has the rubber weights with the handles on each side. Doesn't matter to me though, it al does the same crapola.
