Kefir anyone?

Anyone else out there drink Kefir? Just wanted to see if this is a European thing because most US Natives that I talk to don't even know what the stuff is.

I am lactose intolerant (bad asian genes), I would soil myself silly if I had half a bottle of this.

I had some skim milk with frosted mini wheats this morning... i've been gassing ever since.

I've been grabbin' some other stuff from 7-E, don't remember the name, but it's pretty tasty, but pricey (for a small bottle, it's close to treefiddy).

Same here. Its pretty good. I like some variety in my diet, so having this stuff is great. Unfortunately, Dominicks only carries the BIG sizes, so I never buy it.

yep, kefir rules, LifeWay brand is the best here IMHO. I think they brought original life cultures from Russia when they started it here.

I am too, but I don' get cramps or anythnig like my brother. I just get mad farts. So I still eat dairy on a regular basis. Skim milk is actually the worst for lactose intolerant people, the higher the fat content, the easier the lactose can be broken down. I still drink skim milk though.

"One can change the nutrient content by simply fermenting for shorter or longer periods. Both stages have different healthful benefits. For instance, kefir over-ripened (increases sour taste) significantly increases folic acid content.[4] Kefir also aids in lactose digestion, making it more suitable than other dairy products for those who are lactose intolerant.[5] The kefiran in kefir has been shown to suppress an increase in blood pressure and reduce serum cholesterol levels in rats.[6]"
