For fun (yes I said fun) I put up a Joomla site with a forum on it, there was absolutely no content on it just the structure, but 24 hours after opening the forum for registration I had to clean out 20 new users and wipe my boards clean. Gave me the ultimate appreciation for all the moderators here on a live site of this size. Keep up the good work.

Go through this everyday on CCSforums. We've had it set up on admin approval for a number of years now. Hell even on cycleforums I have to delete spammers pretty much every night. Most are the "dvd converter" crap and some try to sneak in with hidden spam.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

Simply set it up to require admin approval of membership and also admin approval before posting, as a bonus use a captcha. That will cut down on 99% of it.

Captcha is good but justhumans.com is what I use on my site, it works fantastic and is nowhere near as much of a pain in the ass.

I use a simple little add-on that looks for key words in a members first 3 posts (you set the number of posts and key words) and if any pop up the posts get tossed into moderation. Easy enough to ban/delete member from there using the "One Touch Spam Ban & Cleanup" add-on that deletes members posts/threads as well as adding their IP address to banned IP address list.

Let me know if you're interested in either of the add-ons
