thats because home is kicking you back to the old domain...
perhaps a 0 second refresh over to a bounce page on this side while waiting for the domain to move? or just kick it over to the same page info with just the ip/domain changing... that would probably only be a couple lines of code

I got the redirect setup, so the domain is bouncing off the old server to the new one. should start seeing people show up now. but the links aren't gonna work till the domain props in the next day or two.

Ya I know. the homerun is my issue from when I first started doing this 8 years ago with no experience. Nice thing is it wil clear up soon as the domain props.

bad thing is I still need to go through and fix it all to make it "right". A lot of those errors go back to day one construction back in 2000 when I had absolutely no clue what I was doing.

lots of ways to skin that cat... but just out of curiosity...

Could you just do a 0 second redirect on the home page and forum home page (or whatever the common entrances are) and leave the old site up for a day or two while the new dns info propagates?

ie pull the scripts.. pull the.. everything.. but leave httpd up to just push the images it's calling

Otherwise.. depending on how it is stored.. could be as simple as a find and replace.. have it find/replace every chicagolandsportbikes.com/dadadada with /home/chicagol/dadada or just ~/path.. whatever works for you..

your world.. im just trying to help.. dont mean to step on any toes.. just my .o2 tryin to help

Exactly what I am planning to do. only it's in too many different places. not just one big huge page of code, which would make it easy. I have to go through 100's of templates and change blocks of code individually.

the redirect I have setup on my old server for now, so people hit the site from my domain regaurdless.

im gonna head off..
I am not a mod and don't have access to help.. but hopefully this might help a bit.. or at least a couple points of reference

http://linuxshellaccount.blogspot.co...-multiple.html

http://www.devdaily.com/blog/post/li...files-with-vi/
for vi

http://www.unix.com/unix-dummies-que...ple-files.html

sure if your interested you could just google up more particulars..

Hope that helps

otherwise... doing that shit by hand would make for a very very long night...

btw.. it's snowing like crazy out my window right now

maybe i'll telecommute tomorrow

btw.. about the redirect.. i meant to say you can redirect via html or just redirect everything.. if you redirect via html any and all links to images embedded in the site would still work.. assuming they had external access enabled (which they did.. as they worked till you redirected all..)

There are interesting time/saving ways to do this programatically... (search/replace in a tree of files).

...as long as you know specifically what you are looking for and know sp;specifically what to replace it to.

Basically, a 'find' command piping the output to a 'sed' script that has an input file that does the search/replace(s) you need to have happen (( if it's that easy and not something you need to look at individually and make a guesstimate decision on what to do))

I admit though... under my avatar: Arch Walks on F&?kin water, No Shit!!! has a nice ring to it

Everyone Exaggerates

everyone remember to occasionally for the next few days "or even a few times a day" to clean all cookies and temp files and resign in.

so far the domain points correctly now to the site.
