Rider Down forum?

I'm not sure if a separate forum is the right solution, perhaps some different posting rules, or possibly even another private group, but I can't help wondering if there's a better way to handle the volume of rider down threads we seem to get.

I understand that reading these threads might help someone avoid a similar fate & I get that people want to know when it's somebody they care about.

Despite both of these, I truly believe people should avoid starting such a thread unless they know the rider personally and have enough fact based details to educate those wanting to learn from it.

We all understand the dangers of riding, but the nearly constant presence of these threads creates such a morbid vibe around here.

And Mike, this is not directed specifially towards your thread. It's been happening on here for a while now.

I was thinking about doing a closed forum, just for the more serious ones where its people know i.e. members of this site. where only a staff member could post or I could move a post from someone into there.

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!

Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

tell ya what, I'm driving right now, but can someone run a few quick searchs on the site and link me to the main threads for each of our members that have passed away. post them in here, I will then put all of it together in a fallen riders forum in a respectful way.

I hear ya guys on this but locking it down is dumb

I have friends all over. I grew up around bloomingdale and my network of friends is huge. I only thought I would help people out. What I put up had no names. And was a general heads up to people to keep an ear out. I c where u guys r coming from. No offense taken. But if u do make a forum, don't lock it down.

...plus my gf was with me saying "omg slow down, slow down" and I was thinking "Lose annoying squalk box in passenger seat, afford more mods and have less weight in the car and on the back of the bike"...so i dumped her and I'm single again as usual...HERE KITTY KITTY!!!

i believe the forum should be accessible for all forum members - riders can keep themselves educated about potential dangers. New riders will especially benefit from it as they potentially don't fully understand the value of gear and safe riding.

my 2 cents

maybe leave it open for a week. let people post up ... Ex. "remember joe, he was always there when ya needed something, helped me with my 250" "ya, he went fishing with my family, good times"

maybe a good time to post up a subsection too of our wrecks. I think Rob wanted to do this to show dangerous it is to ride.

How about this, you can read about me in the news, if I don't make it, or if I do make it, I will post up what happen and what if anything I could have done to prevent it. Personally every time I have dumped the bike, it was be I was an idiot.

Sometimes goodbye is your second chance.
