Talking Post Putnam 5.1.10 & 5.2.10

Great weekend, even with the rain. Sorry this is longer than 3 sentences for all the ADD people on here

First off HUGE thanks to Greg and Fred for picking me up, giving me a ride down, putting up with my needy ass and bringing me back…shiny side up Hope you guys had as much funs as I did!!! I missed Putnam!

Second HUGE thanks to Turn One Racing…..they set my suspension up and they rock!! I called them before hand to make sure they can do a 07 600rr cuz we all know I was 0 for 6 in getting it done (and yes there is a special tool for this bike) Marshall was great, and what a funny guy loved your Beginner talk If he wants to chime in and say what he did great cuz yeah I have no clue! And WOW, holy new bike batman, my bike is smooth as butter going through the turns, funny how you are just “used” to however your bike rode before. I didn’t get the suspension done till Sunday so I only got to test it out for a few sessions but noticed a BIG difference!!!

Thirdly another HUGE thanks to Kim, for towing me around, showing me some great lines and getting me just a little bit faster and out of my comfort zone. I just <3 riding with you. It makes it so much easier to learn from someone when you have put thousands of miles on with them on the street and track, she knows how I ride and I know how she rides. I haven’t been to Putnam in a few years so Saturday afternoon once it dried up she took me out and showed me the lines, after a lap or 2 I had em down. She then saw what turns I was slower in, told me what turns they were and here is what we are going to do next. And then we did exactly what she said in the next session I came off that session and asked her, hey did you back off at all on turn 6/7 cuz I was right behind her and did not feel out of my comfort zone. She said she didn’t so I know I picked up the pace there, she is a GREAT CR!!! Then we started passing people while it was still damp out but I was like ok…I trust Kim and if she can do it…I can too It was so much fun. Sunday afternoon was even better, hopefully I got some good video.

Then Greg towing me around , another HUGE thanks For an entire lap he was constantly tapping his tail….I’m telling myself in my helmet….dude I am following you I didn’t know he meant follow him closer I know I know…I just need to go faster one of these days….one of these days As always love riding with Greg as well, he knows how to push me just a little bit more than what I’m use too.

Great seeing everyone else and meeting a few new people, Brian803, nice to put a face to the board name, then the regulars like Kim, Nolan, Jeff, Jordan, Ron….sorry if I missed ya!

I still gotta get some video footage put together from ACC then I will put the footage together I got from this past weekend.

And yeah

NESBA strives to run the A group "much like a race practice".

So if you plan to go racing this year, its a great strategy to line up at the back of the advanced group and run all your session to the checkered flag, striving to pass as many people as possible with no hesitation. Head down, striving to run your fastest laps on the last lap (per your lap timer).

No better way to train for a race weekend.

i've been doing a much better job of taking all my sessions as seriously as possible this season. last year, I started to get kinda lazy and just circulate as I waited for other A groupers to come to me. It's funny you mention the race practice part, because I was talking with Dave about how much "racecraft" i learned in those 14 laps. I made my way though some traffic and latched onto a bigger bike that was very hard to get by. He would have normally blown my fairings off, but he was playing around with or getting used to a new bike. Anyway, I was able to mess around with a few passing options while remaining patient as I learned as much as I could about where I was stronger or faster and what might or might not work - I tested the waters in a few corners and finally decided to fully commit at one point. It was also a huge help that we made our way through traffic while this was going on... forcing me to make passes on the other riders as immediately or urgently as safely possible so I didn't lose any ground. It also made me more comfortable with some really really close riding.

It was easily one of the best learning experiences I've had on track this season. As you can tell, i'm still pretty pumped about it haha

Shelly, you're right about Kim. When Fred said that she knew body position Sunday morning he wasn't lying. I was behind you two toward the end of the last session on Sunday after hot pitting for some open track and she looks like a pro on that bike. I mean, she looks like she doing 150 the whole time. You looked good out there to. Not that I really know what I'm talking about, but still. Awesome weekend! I'm so glad I went and got to ride most of both days. I really didn't think the weather would cooperate as well as it did.

The two midday dry sessions on Sunday were great, and the rest of the weekend was good. I made a lot of progress on what I was working on, and although I had to leave a bit early on Sunday and missed the last session, the weekend was a win.

Shelly, That close pass in T8 was a surprise, but you were moving pretty good out there.
Good to meet you.

You were rolling pretty well toward the end on day as well.

Shelly was rocking the 600RR all weekend. Nice riding. She was making passes at everyone. She even did some passing on her bike during the track day as well.

Shelly, are you not going to tell anyone about Shelly's Inflatable Paradise?

Thanks to Ron and Kim for playing around with me some this weekend. I forgot how much fun it is to pass liter bike on the SV and not see them again.

You're welcome Ron for showing you how much grip there was out there in the damp. That seemed to help your confidence on the borrowed bike.

It was a bit damp at times. We got some good dry sessions in, even though the track was pretty "green" all weekend.

I went out early for the last B group session. It just started to rain. The track marshal asked if I was going out, we had a few minutes till I group was over. Sure.... Why not. This track is really grippy I'm thinking. Don't be a big baby just because it's wet. Go into turn 4 and slid the front about 10ft. Pull my skirt back into position, threw my hand up and pitted in. No one came our for the last B session. I guess they were all smarter then I was.

Great time car pooling with Shelly and Fred. Though Shelly and I apparently come overly prepared with to much stuff. BIG thanks to Wink for letting us the trusty Wink hauler to get down there with the Nesba trailer. Now if we could just get him to find some free time to get out and ride soon!

Exactly how far of a drive is Putnam from Chicagoland? I've only ventured to ACC, BHF & Gingerman so far...

No problem Shelly. I was just surprised to see you!
I'm getting better

But I'll blame it on Kim She started passing in the rain and wanted me to follow...so I closed my eyes and followed....hahaha

Haha I actually had a ton of fun even with it being damp out.

Sometimes the road trip is the most fun!! And yes Wink, thanks for letting them borrow the truck. They pulled up at my house and I was like oh Brian's coming.... no

HaHa - that's quickly becoming one of Fred's standard lines at the morning riders' meeting.

I had a fantastic time at Putnam - it's one of my favorite tracks. Loved working with the "B" group and seeing improvement in the riders who braved the wet AND dry sessions.

Shelly, it was a blast working with you - always great to see the lady riders continue to progress. Sorry if I pulled you into a close pass - remember, if you back out of a pass I'll wait for you. Then pick a good spot and blow their doors off!!! (Same goes for you Craig (beac83) - I expect to see you setting up the liter bikes soon enough ).

Jordan - thanks for being a good pit buddy and closing the trailer door when changing into those PJ pants . Looking forward to coming out and watching you race this year!

Greg - it's a pleasure riding with you. Glad we could get out for at least a session and thanks for letting my by to work with Hix a little bit. Ron, thanks for the feedback on my riding - I really do appreciate it!

Here's a link to a few pics posted on the NESBA board: There's a few of me and Shelly in there. http://s473.photobucket.com/albums/r...Park%205-3-10/
