AMA riders at NESBA's Road America event

Looks like we may have some AMA riders showing up to ride the NESBA Road America event right before the AMA weekend there.

I just got this in an email from the AMA. Looks like they have changed their stance somewhat on AMA racers coming and riding at trackdays before the race weekend. That is good news for NESBA and all the other track orgs as well.

I'd be surprised if we don't see some AMA guys rolling with us at the upcoming NESBA Road America event.

I dunno. Reading it, it sounds like they just cut the blackout period from two weeks to one, which does nothing for RA coming up (which is inside the Monday-Thursday period mentioned).

On the other hand, NESBA probably doesn't fall into rule 2.5(a) since it's not an exclusive practice session (and arguably is open to all competitors), and probably doesn't fall into (b) either since it's not a race, promoter/racetrack organized practice, or a recognized school. Maybe it's not really an issue to begin with.

Yeah, it was an issue before FOR SURE. I went down to Road Atlanta and rode with NESBA and then learned AFTER the fact that I had disqualified myself from the Road Atlanta round by doing so. DOH!!!

This change does indeed clear the way for some of the AMA guys to run at trackday events, like NESBA's, the same week as the AMA round.

Ron,
If the nesba track days are sold out at RA will the AMA people still get to ride at the track day? Couldn't that be a problem as for having too many people on track at once? Just wondering??

Not speaking for Ron. Just speaking

If the AMA people have worked out or scheduled riding with us, they will be there. But if the entire AMA paddock shows up and wants to ride with us and we're sold out, we're not going to pack another 25 riders into Advanced just because they have an AMA license.

We'll put the non-superbike class riders in I group though

Nesba is not AMA's practice day. We do from time to time get some of the guys out to ride with us. It's usually a blast! But it never turns into a free for all. This is typically one of my favorite Nesba events of the year.

Kinda like when AMA riders where doing stand up wheelies down the front straight in the Novice group 4 years ago.

That would be a great problem to have wouldn't it? And even if we did, it would only affect the A group which ALWAYS has less numbers than B or I group.

With Road America being a 4 mile long track and it being a weekday event, probably not gonna be an issue.

Steve, we don't have a Novice group.

But I do remember that, and you are correct. The NESBA staff did have to reel those boys in a bit and remind them that it was NOT an open practice day and they could NOT just go out in ANY group they wanted.

Always awesome to be track side (or even better on the track) with those AMA riders. Reality check for sure.

I got to ride with Scott Russell during the Yamaha Champions Riding School last week at NJMP. He drug me around Thunderbolt for a few laps, and then gave me feedback like a CR would do. He was one of the guest instructors.

L-R: Tommy Aquino, Scott Russell, Me, and Chris Peris

What a great group of guys to ride with.

I wish I was going to Road America, but the Harley cost me $1100 in repairs on the way out to the school, so I'm a little strapped right now. Short Version: Wheel bearing went and took the wheel with it.
