August 1st - Putnam SED

Anybody else doing this (or CRing for it)?

I'm really excited to try it out, I know it's quite a ways off but figured I'd see who else was planning on attending or if anyone has gone in the past what they thought.

I was thinking about doing the 'B' SED the day before. Sounds good on paper, but I'd also like to hear from anyone that has done it.

Here is a link to an entire thread about SED days from the NESBA forum. http://tracktalk.nesba.com/showthread.php?t=11190

If you don't feel like paging through that, here's my personal experience...

I participated in the "I" group SED at Putnam. It was an excellent experience and helped me immensely in my riding progression. Specific things that were memorable:

Track walk and demonstrations - it was the first complete track walk I ever did. I have since walked every track that we go to regularly (except Road America) and learn something new every time. I generally take a more experienced rider with me and ask a bunch of questions. Thank goodness Nolan likes to walk with me

Individualized instruction - it was great to be able to turn a few laps, try to understand what the CR was showing me, visit hot pit to talk about it, and then go back out. Without the "20 minute" pressure I didn't feel like I had to get as many laps in as possible before the session was over. It really let me focus on trying out new skills instead of practicing old ones over and over again while the clock was running out...

I spent a lot of time that day out of my comfort zone because I was in full-on learning mode, not on autopilot. I felt like that was the whole point of the day - it was for learning and progressing and the CRs were all there to help push and encourage.

Putnam was always a favorite, and after the SED there it really feels like home

I'd highly encourage any rider to participate. As with anything else, you get out of it what you put in.

I believe you just need a picture ID to prove it's you at registration. Need to be 18 years old (or bring a parent)

No promises on this, but rumor has it that we MAY have some VERY special guest instructors joining us at Putnam.

I went to the SED day at VIR earlier this year and it was done very, very well. We have learned a lot over the last few years from doing these days about what works well and what does not work so well.

This upcoming one at Putnam will be better than any of the previous ones, I am confident of that.
