Talking My BHF 6/26 track day

The first half of the day is totally tense for me.

The first session -- almost everybody passed me and I asked myself "I'm I doing somrthing wrong"

2nd session -- Trying to relax, but still tense.

3rd session -- improving, trying to catch the line.

secound half was 50/50.

4th session -- bad session. Had to run off twice.

5th session -- run off once.

6th session -- this is when I started to feel comfortable....probably the fastest lap is here.

7th session -- smooth and fun. ran wide on some turns.

Good thing I didn't crash

I just want to thank you --

Chills to let me borrow the ramp.

David to help me adjusting suspension.

Morrand to keep me company.

Report --

Ken did 1:20 and got bumped up to Advance

Morrand found the grasses on session 5. He is ok though. frame broken. bend rear brake pedal.

David did 3 sessions and play volleyball instead. (old tires, too slippy)

I'm sure someone will post more detail.

Damn I wanna ride again!!!!!!!!!!

Start saving your money as it gets expensive from here. Once addicted you just keep feeding it.

i wish I could say the same about not crashing .

I only did 3 sessions too and then played volleyball with David and the people camped next to us

My helmet ate some dirt on a T7 error in judgement and was unusable after that. I was chasing mikdivad around the track when he blew by a rider before T7. I was following pretty close and getting ready to get around the rider coming out of T7 but I think David's pass spooked the other rider and he grabbed a shit load of brakes instead of following through on the turn. I was carrying to much speed to make it through the turn with him coming to a stand still so I had to go off the track. Almost saved it but the front end eventually washed out

Anybody got a spare right side gixxer ram air duct? .

Pete, I'm gonna need a new frame slider and bolt too.

other than that...given the sun and great weather..I think I got more of a workout peppering the volleyball around than from riding on the track.

Saturday night was typical NESBA Blackhawk. Good food at the BBQ and great laughs in the concession stand with friends from the board and other NESBA riders & staff.

1 day is never enough! I had my usual day....slow in the AM and fast after lunch. Shot some geat video again which Jimbo will hopefully host for others to see.

I did have my first run off ever....was heading into T6 hot...tried to downshift a little later than usual...got a false neutral when I needed to turn it in and decided to just go straight through the grass. I kept it up and rode right back onto the track

Pretty good day on Saturday. Into the 25s when I had clear track. Weather was perfect. Met some good folks. I did notice a lack of traffic management by the CRs. Too many literbike riders parking in corners and ripping the straight with 5 or 6 bikes stuck behind them lap after lap.

To that point, I started getting a little more aggressive passing lappers in the afternoon. This turned out to be the wrong choice. Following a ZX-10 in the 2nd afternoon session, we passed someone between T5 and T6. I wanted to get by cleanly, so as to not spook this guy. Arrived at T6 too hot and when I squeezed in some more front brake, while still totally upright, the front tucked and I slid straight off. Totally my fault for not being more patient.

To that guy I passed, I'm sorry if I scared that shat outta you! I'll not repeat that move. Hopefully you at least got a laugh at my expense.

we talked about that on sunday. For the most part it was a better day in that respect. I still had a guy try to outbreak me a bunch of times and then park in the corners. He finally ended up in the dirt in turn 1

Re: My BHF 6/26 track day

Very good time, overall. I'm finally figuring out a new technique for controlling the bike--I think they called it a "cornering line," or something.

Glad the weather held up for the whole weekend this time. It was nice to have a day for once that wasn't either a scorcher or a monsoon.

The BBQ Saturday was great--excellent chili! Thanks to Odysseys for the beer and conversation (and congrats on pulling a 19).

nismoo: you need new tires already? Are they just slipperier than you want, or did you actually chew them up in one day--and if you did, tell me your secret, man, so I can go that fast.

"Found the grasses," eh? I like that, very descriptive.

Actually, the frame's not broken--just some of the fairings. Got the brake pedal back into reasonable shape with some help from a Crescent wrench and got back out there Sunday (and wound up blowing a fuse and session #3, but no other problems). More excuses to upgrade the bike, really. What happened is that I was working with a control rider who took me around the inside of someone on the first part of turn 6, and I tried to follow through but got cut off. Wound up standing the bike up and dumping it in the dirt.

Anyway, hope to see everyone out there again real soon.

I was there on Saturday for the first 4 sessions. I was gone all week on business, so I left early to spend time with the family.

It was another great day. I'm loving these track days. The only problem is that once I started getting a rhythm, I ran into the slower riders and it killed that rhythm. I was grinding my kickstand on turn 5.

I think I'm ready for "I" because I keep lapping people in "B". I think I was only passed once in the 2 track days I've done. I would like to try "I" next time, to see if I'm ready for it. I think it would help progress my riding skills. I feel as "B" is holding me back.

Grouch, I was in my truck waiting to leave the track by turn 6 when you went down. I really couldn't tell how/why you went down. It just looked like you skidded off the track. I'm glad you were OK.

Brian,

Yeah I'm running in "I". I confirmed my thoughts on the CRs not managing traffic when I watched the last "I" session from the fence in T5. Seemed like most CRs were running by themselves between packs of riders.

Oh well...lesson learned. If I see that again, I'll certainly say something.

Mike,

Must be something about sitting there waiting to leave. As I sat there waiting for "A" to finish, I heard a large impact over in T5 and then a red flag. Anyone know the details? Woulda been the last session on Sat.
