6/27 NESBA trackday

What an awsome day!!!!!!!

Thanks to NESBA and Mike Bender(SP?) for helping me out. These guys showed me some great lines and really got me moving out there. I don't have a lap timer, but Chills was recording some 1:29's while riding behind me. after Mike bumped me up to "I". I was pretty happy for the bump, but scared at the same time. It wasn't as bad as I thought though. I lined up in the right line and didn't really get passed at all, and even threw a few passes down myself.

Now for the bad news : My front tire was sliding out there all day, I got the bump to "I" and it got really bad 4 laps into my first session. I thought it was best to pull off the track. Ken suggested some minor adjustments. That got the front end feeling better so I stepped it up a notch. Coming into the apex in turn 7 I roll on the gas and before I knew it the bike was pointing toward me and I was on the ground. The back end came right out. So that's the last time I run street tires (bt010's in case you're wondering) on the track. The bike is not bad at all. Frame sliders saved a ton of damage. It will live to ride again.

The good:
good times
good people
excellent trackday organization
made some great progress
learned some valuable lessons

The bad:
bike repairs
the need for some race tires

Grover did you hear that, they were passing out "I" stickers like cotton candy. I saw a number of people getting stickers from the time I was there.

Good Job, Brian

brakes worked out great!!! thanks again Chris.

The low side was no big deal. Barely did any damage. I probably could of bent the rear brake lever back, re-teched and went back out for the last 2 sessions. But something wasn't feeling right so I decided to call it a day.

Congrats on the bump Brian! Sorry about the getoff, but the R1 needed some character anyway. Glad you and the bike will live to fight another day - but I'm pissed that you scared me into getting new rubber before the 12th!

Glad to hear that the bike isn't bad. I saw you on the dirt and the bike was pointing almost back to T7. Another guy I went down on T6 right before you did. After that I did one more lap and called it a day.

Overall it was a damn good weekend. I didn't post any incredible laptimes, but I was very consistent the whole time. My averages were pretty much the same from session to session.

Congrats again to Brian and Ken for getting bumped to I and A respectively. And despite what Jon and Grover say, NESBA does not give out stickers like candy. Everyone who gets bumped earns it.

Chills you kill me. I was making a reference to all the people getting moved. I know of at least four riders for the short time I was there.

yeah...besides the CR's girlfriend that got bumped I think us four were the only ones. In our defense it was getting dangerous for the four of us to be in "B" The CR's actually worked with us and made us earn that "I" sticker. None of us even asked for a bump. Infact, I didn't even speak with a CR until they told me they need me to move up too "I" with the other 3

In "B" its always crowded, why do you think everyone wants out of there. It all depends on how many people show up I guess.

The other Trackday Org (STT), it was like that but in the "I" group.

Brian, you are suppose to do what I say not what I do.

Glad to hear it wasn't bad, now use that as an excuse to do a custom paint job on the R1, then get Sharkskinz for track use.

lol I was waiting for you to chime in with all the crap I've given you.

No custom paint, especially if the R1 is going to get a couple more trackdays this year. I'm not getting to particular about fixing it. I'm getting new sliders for sure, bending back the rear brake lever (if it doesn't brake then it's off to ebay) and replacing the bottom right fairing that was destroyed. Everything else can stay rashed as far as I'm concerned.

Just wanted to let you guys know that Tom had fun riding with you in "A". I wish I had all your names/BB monikers/bikes/groups/wives/girlfriends/etc. matched up. It would alleviate the clueless look I have so often! I know I rode with some of you, but I'm still just trying to get comfortable in I.

It was a fun weekend. We were in such a toot to hit the road by noon on Sunday that we didn't have much time to socialize. Glad to hear everyone survived the weekend without major issues. I also have my first crash out of the way. Now everyone can quit telling me "it's not if, it's when". Tom was over by T3 (I was at T7) walking the dog when it happened. The corner worker there said it was some "little guy" who crashed. He was quite distressed to find out the "little guy" was me. Oh well. The headache's gone and the cut on my nose will probably leave a good reminder. On the bright side, I did manage a 1:28:50 on Saturday, but ran mostly in the low 1:30's. Needless to say, Sunday was quite a bit slower.

Kim, we missed you! Grover too!

NESBA needs to take a gander at my army drill schedule before announcing dates! I probably would have gone but I the Army had me that weekend.

And yes, I've been in 'B' longer than most of the CRs. The only reason Lupi is still down there is because he can't afford to hit the track more often. The only track it's a problem is Blackhawk, everywhere else I rarely run into traffic. I should be able to hit the Putnam days. Hopefully Lupi and I can take care of that there. If racing has taught me one thing, it's how to be passed!
