Talking Road Atlanta Road-Trip 11/19 - 11/20

Who would be interested in renting a RV w/me and trailering bikes to Road Atlanta in November? I'm thinking if we got 4 people, the cost wouldn't be too bad.

Anyone else have ideas? I gotta do one more weekend! I'm tire-shopping now!

Busa... AdrenalinJunkie, Me and RonHix might be up for that. I have a 14' trailer, and it fits three bikes easily. We could probably put a fourth in there.

Sounds good to me!

NP with the bunking. I am picking them up in about 2 hours and we are heading down to Putnam. Will be offline until Monday... but we will talk about it on the drive down. PM me with your phone number before we leave and we'll give you a call while we are driving.

I'd totally do it if I had enough vacation time availble to me, but since I just started, I can only take one day off until December, and it seems like this would be a 4 day trip...

Actually, that would work out since theres a few drivers... Hell, if it's going to be a 3 day trip, I'll go if you still have space

I guess I was thinking about how I'd do it alone and that would mean driving all day Friday and all day Monday.

It would be tough to get back in time for normal day hour work on Monday. If you leave at 5PM on Sunday, you won't roll into Chicago area until about 5AM. Keep in mind, you can't go much more than 65mph with a motorhome and you have to unload everything and clean it before returning it. Best plan on stopping someplace along the way on the way home.

A bunch of us (about 8, not counting CRs) went to Barber a couple years ago. Kruz, JimGoFast, Jeff, and Pugsly all rented an RV. I trucked down with Chills and Boxuin and Swerve found us as well. The RV rental I think ended up being about $350 a piece, and that was when gas was $1.50/gallon. We stopped off in Northern Kentucky for the night.

What would be a better option? Are you going to suggest CAMPING? Like OUTSIDE? Without a place to plug in a blowdrier?

the travel time alone will probably be more then 12 hours one way. i'm gonna guess about 14.

i lived in atlanta for almost 2 years and trailered my suv back to chicago. that took about 13 hours. very few things as tense as driving a 20' truck with a trailer through the mountains...

From the one time I've done something similar, you need to take the following into account..

How much do you want to spend? On the cheap, nix the RV. Spend a bit more for creature comforts, opt for a hotel, figure $80/night. RV will be the most expensive, but could prove the most fun and enjoyable.

If you go RV route..do you know the people? Can you tolerate them nonstop for 4 days? If you don't know the people fairly well (couple track days with them should suffice), you might have problems on the 14 hour drive there and back. If you (or one of the others) are a neat freak and the others aren't, that will rub the wrong way.

We had a blast down there and I would love to do it again next season (you listening LBK and Ofugit!)

I'd plan on being gone Friday through Monday..even if you haul ass to get back, after two days of riding, you'll be too exhausted to go to work on Monday.

Another option would be for January and February at JenningsGP. They have a $300 three day weekend option. The track is ran by motorcyclists, for motorcyclists. The lap record is held by a 250 GP bike to give you an idea of the corners. About 5 more hours of driving, but the extra 2 months could give you more planning time.

i was thinking the same thing mr. grover

i believe it's motorcycles only at jennings as well and don't they also run counter-clockwise?
