Post Road America (Part 1)

I'm sure there will be a lot more posts after everybody gets done tomorrow - I only road today.

I forgot how fast the track is !!!! Man that was fun

But it was pretty friggin hot out there.

Road with TJPilot most of the Day AND ran some laps with Jeff with a J !!!! Yes folks, thats right - Jeff with J was back out there in good form this weekend.

Saw Ron, Wink, Brent ... & those folks for just a little bit as they rolled in from the "other RA." Think I only came across Wink once on the track - as he passed me in Canada Corner. I sure Ron buzzed me a few time too - but don't specifically remember seeing him out there.

Congrats again to Dave on the Bump.

Hope weather holds out for the riders tonorrow.

- Sam

It was a riot yesterday.... hot humid.... but the track was great.

Looks like they probably had rain up there most of the day today by the radar.

Sorry I missed the chance to meet you Selston..... maybe @ autobahn

Hey Tom

Yea - we saw you a few bikes up ahead of us as we lined up for pit-out one time. But we couldn't find you after that. Pugsly (Keith) and Ed Moor were at the track too (but not riding).

Also saw Jack a few times (can't miss him with those bright WHITE leathers )

Yeah, Ed came by the trailer for a while, shame he didn't get his ride ready in time.

It started to rain at 9:00 AM. It was still raining at 2:00PM when I left.

I guess that means that my one lap today cost $150.00.

I can relate..... 2 weeks ago - 2 days at BHF - 2 sessions, 1 each day.

Had to remind myself that I HATE riding in the rain.

Great time on Sat. Was good to see everyone again. Road America is such a great track and now even better with the repavement. It was cool being out on the track with AMA guy Tony Meiring. I guess he was testing or just practicing for the races this weekend. I got to see him for about 2 corners. He is one smooth rider. Pugsly was saying he was watching him come into turn one and you could hardly hear him shutting the throttle entering the turn.

So that was Tony Meiring! That was fun seeing those guys go. The starts for the A group were pretty funny. A little more like a race start than a track day rolling start. Tony and a cluster of others got up front and left as a pack when the green flag came out. It was also fun because the track marshall was waving the green flag instead of just holding it up.

I had fun visiting on Tuesday, but never turned a wheel. I had slicks and did not feel like rain riding on them. A bit of a waste of money, but still had a nice time visiting with some folks.

See you at Autobahn this weekend!

Yep, made my 06 debut at RA. You really do forget just how fast that track really is!

Great riding with Selston & TJPilot. Hopefully we can all make it to Putnam.

HRB,

You were looking good out there in the rain. Looked like you could definitely get that big Busa around the track, as well as RIP the straight and shut it back down. Way to go man!

Thanks Wink. I had the back end come out pretty hard when rolling on the throttle, but a great experience working on my lines and some fundamentals after taking a couple years off.

And for those of you who weren't there, here's what the day looked like...

Well, where do I start talking about this weekend. Driving up sunday Pauls truck breaks down after we get into Wisconsin. I decide to hop on my bike to ride back to his house to get my truck. Make it just short of Ohare and the duc breaks down. Wife has to get me in my dads pick up that is sitting at my house. Bring her and my son home and turn around to head back up north. Get to where Paul is still waiting for me and the tow truck driver couldn't find him, so decided to just go home. Now we sit around for an hour waiting for another tow truck to come. Finally make it to the hotel at 3:15 am. Put the bike on the charger. Monday, the bike is good and I made it through the first session. Second session it dies on me again. Ends up that the rectifier went bad and took my battery with it. Thankfully TJ, a mechanic at Corse Superbikes was there. He figured everything out and was ready for me at 8 am on tuesday, an hour before they open! Get fixed up and back to the track just in time for the rain. Made it for the first session, just in time to get wet. Bike ran, but not that good for the rest of the day. I figured something got wet, so when I got home today I tried to start it and it wouldnt even start. Started looking at things and decided to pull out the ECU. Well, when I turned it upside down and water came out the inspection hole, I figured I found the problem. Luckily Corse Superbikes has one in stock, and are overnighting it to me so I can run Autobahn on saturday.

Hope everyone at RA had a better time than I did. It was good to meet a couple more people from the board. Later, Co$tlyducati.

It was great seeing everyone again. Things ended for me tuesday afternoon exiting 13a. One peg and one clutch lever are gonners. I had the spares ready but not the motivation to do the repairs. I have plenty of time before Putnam to R&R completely and nicely too. Time to compensate for my lack of talent and speed with my nifty and spiffy bike prep.

Thanks Brian. I was just fine. I have had many, many years of water ski jump crashing experience to rely on. I think Peter or Tom was CRing behind me and I waved/signaled to him I was fine during my slide. Funny, with the jumping it always took forever to hit the water and you had time think about how much it was going to hurt. With the bike, after I was down I looked around and assessed my situation and knew I was fine long before I stopped. Fun, in a twisted sort of way.
I slid almost to the T5 cut off/exit road and there was a very cute young-ish girl in the safety truck there, so it was okay for me.

Have a fast, fun, safe weekend at AB. We will see you (all the usual suspects) soon.

I had a good time on Monday, worked on braking and body position. Tuesday went out in the first session and a 1000 rr highside in front of me @ turn 7 which was not fun. The rest of the day was shot anyway as I had a headache for the last two days and could not stand it anymore so I pack and left at 11:30.

PS I still have that headache too.

I had a great time out there on Monday. focused on self control and being smooth. I even listened to my body and pulled off the second to last session. That was a big one for my hard headed ass.
Very nice to meet the guys i did, I didn't get any screen names though.
