Road Trip....

Hmmm, just passing though Nashville on the way to Barber. Got Marshall (already starting on Corona), Will, Yuri, Doug and myself.... music cranking, we left at 11:15PM last night, 188 miles to go to Barber.

Leaving Chicago, a double trailer FedEx truck was on fire in the middle of 294 North... traffic shut down for MILES in both directions...

Get to I-65 in Kentucky, big rig jacknifed in the hills heading south, once again we were backed up for miles, then they shut down I-65 about 50 cars behind us. We sat for a while, watched a double rig try to U-turn and almost flip and get stuck in the median. We finally zig zagged our short little 58' rig to the nearest off ramp, did our own U-turn jsut in time for the highway patrol to pull up to us "Hey boy, get that vehicle off my strecth of highway. I already have one moron who tried that... do you think you can turn it?"

Of course we did, and went on about our way...

Fun so far, time to stop and get some more Corona.

Gonna be a great trip and ride at Barber. We are going to the museum in a couple of hours. Iam thinking we should be in the right frame of mind by then.

I'm glad I didn't find out till now that you left last night! I'm on the cell phone at 5:00 last night and don't answer it becuase I don't know the area code. Then the home phone rings. Caller ID says "Northeast Spor" I answer it, thinking it's about my credits. I was 17th on the "I" wait list. Chris Moon called 16 people in a row and all of them couldn't go on such short notice. I already spent my money on going to HPT. It was a hard decision, but I just couldn't afford to go so soon.

Count me in for the first spring trip down there!

I want lots of photos and even more stories. You know I love stories. Sounds like your off to a good start!

Ride fast, ride safe and have fun!

Well, we missed him too.

Road trip report -
Yuri, Doug, Marshall, Will and I all had fun ripping it up this weekend at Barber. At this point we have driven right at a thousand miles, we have 670 or so to go. Unfortunately it looks like we'll hit Chicago right about 6:30, rush hour... so we are taking our time.

Riding -
Weather was cold and wet on Saturday, most of the A riders sat it out. I worked pretty much every I and B sessions. Only ran a few A sessions as it didn't make much sense in the rain. Sold out event, so there was a lot of traffic to deal with. Wide skill ranges in every class, A, I, and B.

I managed to get hit on pit lane and knocked clean off my bike, so, my neck and back are killing me. The funny thing is that it felt better on the bike than sitting out, so after sitting out one session, I ran double sessions the rest of the weekend. I can't wait to hit the jacuzzi when I get home, I am SO stiff. I did ride the last two sessions on the KWS bike, MAN I love that thing, it absolutely rocks at Barber.

Marshall went down in T2 pretty hard, back end came around, and Marshall took a tumble with the bike, which eventually came to rest on top of him. Result, peg went through the leaters, and scraped his legs up a bit. He is fine, the bike needs some attention. He is just not happy that it wasn't the end of the day.

Weather on Sunday was beautiful on Sunday, sunny, blue skies and high 60s. It couldn't have been nicer. It was also nice to get to know Doug, as well as get to see Will back on the track where he belongs.

Garth and the Boyd brothers were ripping it up pretty well. As was Geoff May, both on an 06 GSXR 600 and also on a motard. That man can seriously back it in.

I'll let Dustin tell everyone about his trip.

It was a great end to a super first year with NESBA.

WINK, how and what hit you in the pits? a rider? or a car?

how the hell does that happen when people are to go 5mph in the pits.

i know someone must have gotten a ear full to a boot full to the ass?

I was on hot pit lane, pulling in after a session in order to give "I" riders feedback. I was on the left side going perhaps 10 mph or less, a guy pulls up next to me, turns 90 degrees straight into me (to his left) and hit my fairing on the right side, knocked me off, I landed on my head (literally). Banged up the bike, a few cracks, broke my windscreen, and of course ruined my Arai. His comment was that he thought that was pit lane exit back to the paddock.

After much alcohol, and personal assistance from my private pharmacist, Skloss Drug Store, I felt much better. Of course, the had me doped up Saturday night, and all the guys had fun picking on me while I couldn't defend myself. (bunch of meanies!)

I am very VERY stiff today and can't wait to get a hot jacuzzi. Thinking about trying to get a massage on Monday.

WOW if i am understanding you correctly, he turns right into you "almost like t-boneing" from a short distance but still turns into you and hits your side?

if this is correct, why the hell didnt he look where he was going!

Well, I had a pretty good time at barber. The museum was awesome. The track was great. Rain saturday sucked.

Wink, Thanks for your help this weekend. I was surprised to see how a trackday is run in the southeast, and now truely appreciate all the hard work that Garth, Fred, and all the CR's do in the midwest.

The best part of the weekend was the ride home, short detour through Knoxville, to pick up my new trailer. 8.5 x 24 with heat-air unit, awning out the side, and a bunch of goodies inside.

Congrats on the new trailer Rich!

Sorry about the trouble that you had at Barber, but it was fun to run with you. I am looking forward to riding with you next season on tracks you are more familiar with. And btw, I think that the track bike idea will help you out a lot!

Thanks for the updates.

Glad to hear everyone had fun and came home in pretty much one piece.

You know what I say. "Any weekend that doesn't require transport, is a good weekend."

To a great season. Great friends and good stories.

I don't know how we're going to make next season any more fun. But I'm sure we're going to try. Maybe we should start hiding bail money in the trailer.

The guy was right next to me going like 10mph, decided to turn left to exit (where there is no exit) and turned 90 degrees straight into me. I landed on my head... so at least now I have an excuse for being a nutcase.
Ouch...that blows. I guess it's better that it happened in pitlane rather than on the front straight. As far as the nutcase excuses...I'm sure you have a few better ones that that.

I tell ya what, I wiped at 100 plus at RA and it didn't hurt anywhere near as bad as this does. As far as the nutcase excuses, true, this is just my new one. I have been using many various excuses for many, many years now.
