Post Barber 8/18-8/19 Tons of pics

Barber turned out to be one of the most amazing places I've ever visited. The museum, track, landscape, and the people we met were incredible. We met people from Florida, Tennesse, New Jersey, Lousianna, Ohio, North Carolina, Georgia, and the list goes on. The whole facility was beautiful and almost too good to be true. If you guys have the time and money, I would totally recommend that you head out to Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds, Alabama. The museum itself is worth the trip IMO.

Well we visited the museum on Friday and hit the track on Saturday and Sunday. Track temps reached 108 on Saturday and about 105 on Sunday. We had a rough start to the trackday on Saturday with 4 crashes in the second session of the day. A few guys were riding way over their heads but we got rid of them early in the day. One guy almost took me out going into turn 1 but I was lucky that his bike missed hitting me. The guy was tumbling all over the place and I missed running him over by inches, no joke. Dave(5axis) and his bro, Mike, had a good laugh the rest of the day about this. I guess the joke was that I was so slow that even a guy sliding on his ass passed me. Whatever guys that's not funny LOL JK Despite the heat and the close call, the weekend turned out to be almost perfect.

Big thanks to Dave(5axis) and his bro, Mike, for providing Ashwin and I a ride down there. I don't get to travel much so I really appreciate everything you guys did for us. Also, thanks for helping me out with my body position and for making me laugh the whole weekend. My body position is still really bad but I promise I'll work on it.

Here are some pics for you all to see. If you can't head out to this place, at least you can get an idea of how nice this place is.

I got passed by a bike spinning on its side my first trip to barber. Seems to be a theme for people to crash in the braking zone there, for some reason. At least Dave and Mike weren't there to give me shit about it!

I hope to be making that trip as well. I've not ridden the track yet. But I agree. The grounds are fabulous. They're just not very photographer friendly. I guess we're spoiled in the midwest.

Dan, we would let Amanda handle the smack talk.

He go passed by a rider without a bike Yeah, lucky things worked out that time, but darn it was funny the way jamie was explaining it to us.

I think I got Ash hooked on the Mille. He was smiling a lot!

Is Barber more suited to a 600 like Blackhawk or a 1000 like Road America?

Cool, just curious.

The museum looks amazing. Maybe in the dead of winter, I will head over there to keep hope alive till Spring.

The way I understand it and from the videos I've seen, the 600 is the way to go there. With the crest and hills, you spend a bunch of time with the front wheel in the air on the 1000. It's not that you won't have fun on the track with a bigger bike. There just aren't any huge straights. Lots of turns, lots of elevation changes.

Fabulous facilities. It just needs to be 10 hrs. closer.

Thats what I've heard. I was just wondering. So my ideal plan is to have my 1000 track bike for Road America type courses and a 600 track bike for others. Hummmmmmm

And 2 set of extra wheels and a full set of crash spares for each, multiple stands and warmers and.... Ka ching$$$$$

I just started doing the 2 bike thing with my 250 and the Mille. It is a lot of stuff to haul around. I really enjoy having bikes that are polar opposites. My lines and technique are very different with each bike. I don't know that a 6 and a 1K would be significantly different for a typical track day rider. Both make lots of power or huge power over a wide RPM range and handle well for fat pigs.
Maybe a SV and a 1K or something like that?

Oh yeah.... the "Museum" turn is a good spot for park and scream bikes. That turn was my weakest link on the 250, I really had to work to reel people back in there.
