GKotlin Update

Posting this on behalf of Greg. He had a nasty tank slapper coming out of T7 onto the front straight at Blackhawk this afternoon. Unrecoverable, his bike swerved towards the armco and he and the bike struck the armco about midway down the hot pit wall and at the end of the slide and cartwheels, Greg and his bike both crossed the finish line and passed the tower.

Long slide... anyhow the results are as follows, C4 fracture in the neck, four broken ribs. He is coherent, conscious, and not pleased with the constant pleasures associated with wearing a neck brace.

He is at Rockford Memorial Hospital, in room B420. Limited visits at the moment, but I am sure that he would love to hear from you via the BBS.

Bike faired well. Gonna need a new front wheel, new front and rear brake levers, new kill switch cluster, and a new brake reservoir for an 03 600 RR.

Thoughts and prayers would be greatly appreciated for a full and complete recovery and for a gifted spinal surgeon if so needed.

Greg, heal up soon! Glad your still around. Kudos to the BHF medics for prompt action and proper care. It is always disheartening to see that helicopter visit the track, but more so when its someone you know. Prayers and thoughts will be with you every day during your recovery and if there is anything I can do, let me know.

Man that sucks. I hope you make a full and complete recovery. I had a vertebrae fracture as well, and as long as I do regular exercises my back is not an issue for me. Heal up soon and best wishes man.

P.S. Just curious for all that were there, was there a steering damper on the bike? Stock or aftermarket or none? Not that any of this is related to the crash, I am just curious. Thanks.

Yikes. Sounds scary.

Life has no instruction manual. Parts and labor can be impossible to find. Many go down the road with parts that are in need of service. A breakdown is eventual.

I spoke with Greg over the lunch break.
1)no steering damper
2) He had the bike jacked on it's nose.
The back end all the way up and the forks dropped way down.

He was trying things to get it to turn quicker/better.
I am guessing he had very little trail and when it started it was not going to stop.

It is good to hear he is alive and pretty OK given the circumstances.

My brother and I are planning on visiting tomorrow and I'll say a extra prayer or two this evening.

Had this have happened on the street and without all the gear he was wearing, the immediate closing of the track, and the immediate response of the ambulances... this would be an RIP thread, not a get well soon one.
