Post: Putnam May 2,3

Nolan and I rode Putnam on Saturday...

Thursday - I took the day off of work to take the stock plastics off my bike and do all other pre-track weekend chores. Nolan had to work all day.

Friday - worked all day, home by 4:30. New plastics for the bike arrived at 5:30pm (had been ordered a couple of weeks earlier but were on backorder). Nolan got home from work at 7:00 and immediately got to work mounting the plastics. I went to bed, planning to get up at 11:30ish to help load up the truck and get on the road. When I woke up Nolan had just finished mounting my plastics and there was fiberglass dust EVERYWHERE. What a messy job. Without Nolan Saturday riding wouldn't have happened for me. Thanks hon! His completed handiwork:

We managed to get on the road by 1:00am and Nolan caught a couple of hours of sleep in the car. Got to Putnam by 6:00am and queued up behind Fred Duncan. I had a snack, took a 15 minute nap and then snapped a couple of pics:

Around 7:00 we rolled in, set up our pit area and Nolan headed off to help with tech. I helped Chad Trank and Fred with registration and got to meet a bunch of new folks - good times at 8:00am!!

Weather was foggy and drizzly in the early morning so the first session was a little bit sketchy. After that the sun started to peek through, a dry line formed, and then the rest of the day was GORGEOUS!! Couldn't have asked for better weather - Marshall Skloss insists it was because Turn One Racing came prepared with extra sets of rain tires .
DSCN0150.jpg

So, off I headed to shake down the new bike. It was truly an experience: new bike, new leathers, new boots. I went out with a full set of butterflies and came back with a HUGE smile on my face wanting more. This bike is incredible - it was amazing how comfortable I felt right away.

I rode every minute of every session without the muscle fatigue or cramping I experienced last season. I attribute that to all of the off-season training with P90X. It was awesome to be able to think and learn effectively the whole day without worrying about muscle fatigue or brain fade.

I did need a couple of 15 minute naps during the day though
DSCN0155.jpg

Special thanks to Chad Trank for his coaching expertise throughout the day. I always learn so much from the Nesba coaches - I'm still thinking through some of the stuff Chad and I talked about!

Also thanks to David Kim for the encouragement and for towing me around the track a few laps! Congrats to him and John Gu for wearing the orange shirts with pride .

My thoughts and prayers are with those whose days ended early for various reasons. You know who you are.

After a long and satisfying day Nolan and I shared the 3.5 hour drive home, unpacked all of the gear and bikes, and got some good sleep. Another awesome experience with Nesba!!

It was a swamp out there, I guess they had rain like everyday for a week or something. Even after a full day of dry sunny 70degree weather the grass was still soaked.

That tall grass made sighting reference points a bit difficult. I had a great time Sunday - my first outing of the season. The rework of my suspension came out awesome - props to Joe and Turn One Racing! It was great to shake the cobwebs out and be back on the track. Looking forward my next track days on the 23rd&24th @ Iowa.

Kim - nice writeup and good to meet you Sunday.

Craig

Saturday afternoon was awesome. 60s-70s and sunny. I basically had no sleep but it didn't phase me until the drive home. I can't wait to go back. I heart Putnam!
