More shopping this weekend....

I was out this weekend looking at some crusiers and came across a few sharp Road KIng's, VTX's, and another Magna.

Im looking to try the cruiser scene for a while and a having a difficult time plopping down $18m on a new Road KIng. Im even having trouble with a new Jap bike as they can be $14m.

So Ive been looking for a used cruiser....something I can ride and not worry about. SOmething relatively cheap that I can turnaround in a year or so and not lose too much.

For about $10, I can get a 2003-2004 VTX with some nice add-ons. But for $5000, I found a 2002 Magna with only a few thousand miles. Just like the one my neighbor was selling but 4 years newer and half the mileage.

I really want a twin, but for half the price, the Magna could be a great test bike.

Any thoughts? Am I nuts for wanting a $18m HD and settling for a $5000 Magna?

You're nuts alright...

Pick up the Magna and see whatcha think. It's a great all-around cruiser, and if you take care of it you'll be able to turn it this time next year for nearly the same $$. That way you'll get a free summer on a cruiser to see if you like it. If you do, roll that $5K into your Harley and get ready to start hanging out with Tony more!

Done and done.

ps - do yourself a favor and check out the Victory lineup. Saw a couple out this weekend and damn they're sharp!

YES you are
first, as far as cruisers go, twins the only way to go

second, i wouldnt call a magna a cruiser, id call it a standard, somewhere along the lines of a slow vmax.

you want a sharp used bike at a decent price, look for a Honda Aero. gorgeous bike IMO. spending 10-12k on a used vtx is silly when for a couple more grand you can get a new one.

you should be able to find a Aero for somewhere around 6-7k, i had a friend who had one back when i had my roadstar and I liked the aero better.

good luck

I'd say pick up a used V-Rod for about 14k, but I'm biased.

There;s alot of guys out there who have bought them, customized them, and then realized that they can't afford it and you can get a great bike with some extra goodies for a very decent price.

not really a cruiser fan, but the Midnight Warrior always catches my eye at the dealer

Look, I can appreciate this. I was young too, I felt just like you. Hated authority, hated all my bosses, thought they were full of shit. Look, it's like they say, if you're not a rebel by the age of 20, you got no heart, but if you haven't turned establishment by 30, you've got no brains. Because there are no story-book romances, no fairy-tale endings. So before you run out and change the world, ask yourself, "What do you really want?"

The Aero (until recently) also had a 1100cc Vtwin with shaft drive.
It may still be in the lineup. They do look good.

The Boulevard series is nothing more than last year's lineup rebadged.

You are not nuts to want a Harley. My dad is selling a super clean '01 HD Road King Classic with about 20k miles on it. Loaded to the max with extras like pipes, chrome, tach, lights, & a whole bunch of add ons. Remember you buy a HD and keep it for a year or two and then sell it for nearly the same damn price. If you want info anything shoot me a PM.

Not to sound dumb or anything, but if you have to have a new bike, why not look at a superglide, the msrp is around 11k and its a great riding bike as is, but there is a huge aftermarket to do just about anything, why do you need to start out with a roadking??????
Also why not stop by ILharley and take a look, maybe there is something there that Sam(site sponsor) can help you with
He gave me a great deal on my 02, and you never know what he will come up with next
just a thought
and by the way, coming of a series of ZX7's and Buells, i wouldn't consider anything but the Dyna family for its handeling and ride

ok, since I am opening up my self to get blasted here....

I bought a new 05 750 Shadow spirit, I don't like the retro Aero look, I like the bike look. tax title license and all that I got it with a little customization for $7400. I am VERY happy with it. Would I like something a little larger? sure, but I really LOVE this bike.

I was looking at the Suzuki Volusia Limited earlier this year. It has the look of a FatBoy. It's an 800cc and I was looking at getting that OTD for around $6g thru CCC.

Cheaper then what I could get a used one for from the same place.

I like the full fendered look myself.

I would also look at the New line Up Boulevard from Suzuki C50 or C90.

Street & Snow has the Volusia and loves it. Maybe he can chime in about it.

I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're goin', and hook up with them later!!

I've owned 3 metric cruisers thinking I could be happy with them, and they go down in vlue like crazy. Learn from my mistakes and go straight to the Harley. I would have saved shitload if I had.

Agreed. My first bike was a '00 Yamaha Road Star 1600cc. I had custome paint job, after market breather, vance & hines long shots, fly shield, billet mirrors and I lost my ass when I sold it. If I go for a cruiser I would have to go with HD.

Here is a Victory project that was run last weekend at BIR for the 5 hour endurance race.

So far here is all I have about it:
"The guys running it claim it's just a side project that they are doing on their own without factory support, but I think they are receiving some back-door help from the company and are doing some research. I looked at the bike last year and it seemed to have some telemetry equipment on it, not something a bunch of guys working on their own would come up with.

Last year it was butt slow. It was the only bike I passed on a GS500 during the endurance race, just before I crashed."

I think the best lap time was a 2:07 during the endurance race. That is on the slow end of SV times.
I'm still digging
