Harley pumping oil through the carb?

Hey guys, question for ya.

My brother has an 1988ish Super Glide that pumps oil through the carb and onto the ground. I'm wondering what can cause this. I think that's the way they have the crankcase breather on this engine? Could it be blowing oil past the rings? I know the oil isn't overfilled, so you can scratch that off the list.

Thanks in advance!

this question was just answered in a recent motorcyclist or cycleworld. I'll try to dig it up if it isnt answered soon.

Probably not enough, maybe 3-4 times a month, no more than 50 miles a crack.

Normal behavior. I had an Custom Chopper with a Harley motor in it and it did the same thing. I asked the mechanics and they said it was normal.

I haven't looked at it myself yet, but would you say that there is a point when it's too much oil coming out?

What was normal for mine was that the air filter would have some oil in it and the air filter cover would drip some oil out onto the crankcase. Not alot of oil, but some.

After some digging and talking to the previous owner, we decided that there is an oil pressure relief valve that is sticking, we're gonna rebuild the relief and regulator just because we're in there.

Thanks for the replies fellas!

also there is a scavenging gear for the oil pump that has a screen on it, if you don't get the timing in the gear teeth right I'm pretty sure thats one of the symptoms.

beat me to it...bikes are easier to understand then cars..and smaller motors...(duh...i know)...but the only other casue i would think of if the timing is way off also that could be the cause

...plus my gf was with me saying "omg slow down, slow down" and I was thinking "Lose annoying squalk box in passenger seat, afford more mods and have less weight in the car and on the back of the bike"...so i dumped her and I'm single again as usual...HERE KITTY KITTY!!!
