Road Star vs. Warrior?

Okay,

I've been thinking a cruiser might be the next bike, so I can actually ride it to work every now and then. I found an '01 Road Star up at Nxxxxxx bike shop that looked to be competively priced (under $7k if I remember). I found a Warrior, slightly less experienced, for about $8500 from another nearby shop. both are pretty nice, the older one has the windscreen, bags (soft) and super cushy cruiser seat. Haven't inspected the Warrior yet.

So, which is best? Given the crowd, I'm thinking the Warrior for a couple grand more.

I'm a big fan of the Warrior. IMO, the best power crusier out there. Out performs everything but the VRod.

Road stars are big Turds...warriors definately better.

You can pick up used VTX 1300...any model all day long for 6k or under.
I dont have a link here but if you google " illinois VTX message board" you'll find it.

I cant believe your even considering buying a used bike from a dealer...especially a cruiser.

here ya go I went and got it for ya

i don't think it is true. (except about v-rod)

the hp/torque for warrior are not that great until you spend a lot of $$$ on engine mods.

Honda VTX or new Suzuki M109R will be definitely faster in a quarter mile.

I haven't seen any warriors for sale in the area privately in the last week or so. Granted, I haven't looked for too long though.

An M109R would be nice, but new I doubt I can get it out the door for under $11k. They just came out this month so they won't budge on price too far.

Depends on what performance means to you. Quarter mile numbers for both are 12.21 vs. 12.5 to VTX.

In the handling department, the Warrior will run circles around the VTX.

I have a Warrior, and so do a few others on this board you can see first hand at Strats or one of the get togethers.
I didn't spend megabucks on mine and will not hesitate to run a VTX all day......
it's too early to tell about the 109R. Initial observations are that the instrumentation and risers are too high for alot of folks and tends to obscure nearby forward vision uncomfortably.

I didn't sit on the M109R, but the only things that stood out is that big ass 240 tire and huge gas tank that would have to effect handling when full. But the overall look of the thing is cool and unique, which is what Suzuki needed.

I found a crappy Warrior forum (rswarrior.com I think). Forum was laid out horribly so finding stuff is a pain.

CrumbTray on the board has a Warrior that was at Strats a few weeks back, it has an ostrich seat and looked badass. I've grown to have a bit of a boner for those bikes after flipping through the Cruiser Exhaust section of Dennis Kirk for the past few years... they just look mean. The location of the tach seemed a bit strange to me though.

Depends on what your wanting.. Power cruiser or cruiser????

Make sure to test ride either bike before buying. I can say I rode Crumbtray's and was nice, BUT his seat and forwards controls weren't for me(aftermarket).

The power was nice, but not as powerful as I thought it would be.

I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're goin', and hook up with them later!!

I was at the Yammi dealer in Mukwanago last weekend and they had a Warrior upstairs. I was amazed at the size of the exhaust can!! Its like a 55 gallon drum!!! Does the one youre looking at have the stock pipe on it?
Other than that its a no brainer. The Warrior

It's got aftermarket pipes, thinking V&H shotguns but the description didn't say.

I didn't like the layout of it. No menus just big ass list of posts broken down by category. I'll take a look again this afternoon. It was midnight when I checked it out, I was pretty tired.

You are incorrect about the VTX, the Suzuki is still an unknown, but will probably be the faster bike (probably because it's liquid cooled, not air cooled like Warrior),based on everything I have read.

I was REALLY close to buying a Warrior about a year ago, so I did a lot of research on them. Like mdfdbusa said. In stock form, the Warrior is faster and handles better. You would think the VTX would be faster because it is liquid cooled, but it's not. Even with both modded, the Warrior is better in all around performance and has a huge aftermarket for parts and performance upgrades. The VTX is a very nice power cruiser, but it is no Warrior IMO.

I'll stop on by the shop and check it out this afternoon. It was just listed yesterday so I doubt they'll be much room for bargaining. Ofugit has already offered to help with pumping up the power, but a stage 3 kit is $3K.

Thanks smartdrug for the compliments... Yeah Grover stop by the warriors tonight, there should be some at Strats...mine will be... once you see one in person you will be sold...

VTX.. Pros: good power, good looks Cons: sounds like it is clapping, shaft drive, expensive to put a 240 on

Vrod: Pros: insane power Cons: I am not one for the looks, doesn't handle great

M109: Pros: power, 240 Cons: can't get it used yet, really wide and long! and in my opinion slightly fugly

Warrior: Pros: decent power, handling, looks, cheap to mod Cons: Doesn't have the power of some rivals

It is up to you... all the bikes are great bikes, there isn't one that will beat the other one in all categories.. each bike has its qualities... unless you are talking Marauders or vulcan or others that don't really fit into the power cruiser category

AKA 02Warrior on chicagolandcruisers.com
CrumbTray on rswarrior.com

2002 Yamaha Warrior
-rotate air in tires every 1000 miles
-change blinker fluid religiously
-have the dealership install new muffler bearings everytime I bring it in for the automatic transmission flush and filter change
-I only run Uncle Ben's premium rice....

no dice on that dealership. The salesman wasn't too keen, but the place (Ace powersports) had tons of bikes. He tried to get me on that $3000 'rebate' that you have to wait 35 months to cash. Seen that one before. The M109R was a lot lighter than I thought it would be, but the tank was probably empty.

The bike was sold over a month ago. Their web guru isn't really a guru I guess. Had an 03 SV1000S but pretty high mileage (17000) and close to $6k asking.

I'll have to call that place up and see if it's still around. Price isn't too bad and the city isn't too difficult to get to. Thanks, if it's still around I'll check it out on Friday after work.

That would look bad-ass. One I'm bidding on now is Titanium Gray (like my car, and my helmet, and half my race bike). Got those goofy beach bars though, so I'll be hitting the forums looking for stock or smaller aftermarket ones.

That one is local too! It looks pretty good. Even the buy it now option for $6800.00 is a good deal. There was a transmission recall on all 02-03 Warriors. It was something about the trans locking up while riding.
I would ask the seller if he has had this done, or get the vin # and check with your local Yamaha dealer. If not, you can still get it done, and since they have to split the cases to get at the trans, that's the time to put HC pistons in there.

I would ask the seller if he has had this done, or get the vin # and check with your local Yamaha dealer. If not, you can still get it done, and since they have to split the cases to get at the trans, that's the time to put HC pistons in there.

Exacta mundo! or put a 110 kit in!! 110 kit $800 ... HC pistons 3 hundo...

Here are some pics of my pig...

That was a question that was listed in the auction. The trans recall work has been completed. Quincy isn't local..I just drove back from there this weekend. Granted, I stopped a couple times (gas, food, bathroom), but it still took over 6 hours. I can probably easily get the guy to get it up to Macomb, maybe even Dixon. He said he'd work with delivery within 200 miles.
