National Defense Authorization Act/Udall Ammendment

I searched, didn't see anything about this here yet.

Why are senators allowed to "draft in secret" and "passed in a closed-door committee meeting, without even a single hearing."

So this gives the military power to imprison anyone in the world, including Americans, without any due process?

Sounds like North Korea to me.

and what happens when another country objects to some action our military takes based on this doctrine? What happens if we are trying to imprison a Libyan national in Libya? Sounds dangerous, and stupid.

did some reading and sec. 1032 seems to be the most controversial language. beyond the questionable ethics of guantanamo bay, the most controversial language is that in regards to US citizens, the requirement to detain does not apply. vague language, but going by traditional definitions, it looks to me like they CAN detain american citizens who they perceive to be national threats.

and as for who voted, this should be the proper link with a final vote of 93-7. the link in the OP shows the first vote which wasn't passed.

nice write up by rand paul:

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/...eat-on-rights/

actual bill text (sec. 1032 begins on pg. 361):

http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/BILLS-1...12s1867pcs.pdf

read sec. 1032, subsection (b)
