Dear Leader Dead..

North Korean leader Kim Jong-il has died at the age of 69, state-run television has announced.

Mr Kim, who has led the communist nation since the death of his father in 1994, died on a train while visiting an area outside the capital, the announcement said.

He suffered a stroke in 2008 and was absent from public view for months.

His designated successor is believed to be his third son, Kim Jong-un, who is thought to be in his late 20s.

North Korea's state-run news agency, KCNA, urged people to unite behind the younger Kim.

"All party members, military men and the public should faithfully follow the leadership of comrade Kim Jong-un and protect and further strengthen the unified front of the party, military and the public," the news agency said.

A funeral for Kim Jong-il will be held in Pyongyang on 28 December and Kim Jong-un will head the funeral committee, KCNA said. A period of national mourning has been declared from 17 to 29 December.

Could not have happen to a better person.....
Lets hope that his son is more sane than he was. Unlikely being raised by that nut.
How many days until he rises from the dead? This is the guy who had super powers, they erected a statue at a bowling alley to celebrate his perfect 300 game the first time he visited, lol...

Exactly, will the son be the new generation and be more liberal and diplomatic. And join the rest of the free world. Or will he follow the hardline and follow his dads legacy. I guess a lot is up the his inner circle and generals, the son may end up being a puppet carrying out their orders.

Would be a hell of a time for Hillary and other political world leaders to get in there and open their eyes to what they can do if they loosen the reigns of the dictatorship. It could be a win-win for North Korea. Get rid of some of the crazy and lose some of the nukes pointed at the South and maybe you will get some economic building blocks and trade partners. Of course centuries of false information about the West and other symptoms of isolationism may make anything an outsider says be very hard to believe.

Gonna be one hell of a War if we do.

1.2 Million Active military - 5 Mil reserves

Navy consisting of over 400 ships

800 mobile launch platforms

3,500 Tanks, APC, light armor

10,000 pieces of artillery

Estimated 5,000 tons of chemical weapons

Last report I read stated that currently they have enough 240mm artillery pieces to cause 80% casualties in Seoul within 12 minutes and that's with a 40% dud rate. Massive capabilities within short-medium range.

The one thing we have going for us is that they don't have the infrastructure to attack anyone outside of China/South Korea.

FWIW, We currently have approx. 30k troops in S. Korea.

Actual numbers are obviously classified but suffice it to say, we have more active troops and our training and equipment is vastly superior. However... they're within striking distance of S. Korea and China, have a MASSIVE amount of reserves (every woman, child and elderly person with a chopstick will be a threat) and they're all brainwashed to hell.

Their tech is old and inferior but it doesn't take much work to keep an ancient artillery piece or even a much newer MLRS up and running. They have enough people to have them walking with wheelbarrows of rockets, shells, powder, etc. back and forth from the factory to the line.

The reserves number is bloated as IIRC they consider every person age 15-60 to be part of their "reserves", so the reality is a little different.

My point is that although we are much better prepared for war than they ever will be, the casualties would be astronomical, both military and civilian.

Quote:
The 240-mm MLRS is among the greatest North Korean threats facing the South Korean capital Seoul. They bundle 12 or 22 of those rounds into a single burst, with each round being capable of destroying an 80 sq. m area. There are 200 of these MLRS vehicles lined up near the demilitarized zone. In times of war, they could fire up to 6,400 shells on Seoul, capable of turning a 6 sq. km area into rubble.
Seoul is 600+ Sq/Km so that's a small chunk taken out of the city, but if they space out the rockets, reinforce the line and maintain constant bombardment, 12 minutes and Seoul is destroyed- 80% of 11 million people gone in almost no time - "I feel a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced."

I heard they were trying to get obama, as it's rumored he will be a free agent next year.
