For someone with "PIKUACH NEFESH" under his name, you have interesting views about nuking others.

More than bad PR, as humans, we should give more emphsis to the innocent children and women this man killed and how to avoid future frustrations.

Lets get out of Afghanistan already.

Not good. Special forces spend years there trying to gain the trust of the regular people there and then this shit happens. Obviously all of the troops do not share this nuts belief but try to tell that to the troublemakers over there. They are going to milk this for everything that it is worth.
Good thing is that this is an isolated incident and not an epidemic problem like Abu grab where a bunch of people were involved.
Guy who did it was on his 4th tour, generals are pointing to a mental breakdown.. Sad.

that shit happened during Soviet Afgan war - soldiers were constantly tired of living under threat of some 12-year old with Molotov cocktail or pipe bomb or some woman martyr. there were reports of some mental case soldiers going on retaliation missions against civilians. I guess US soldiers and Soviet soldiers are made of the same stuff

I have to say one thing - I've been to Gaza strip and Lebanon and West bank, and I know that combatant and non-combatant line is not existent there in many cases. Kids, women, general population all share such a hatred towards "infidels", "occupants", what they call you at that time - that a kid with grenade or a woman with a gun was a more realistic threat than a bearded male adult ****** - they were too busy ********* ****

Civilians acted the same way in Nam.

What else do you expect in an occupation?

If Afghans were to invade the US, I know some 12 year olds who'd do much worse.

The frustration of such an environment doesn't justify the actions of this soldiers.

I hope the defense dept puts more emphasis on PTSD and the mental well being of soldiers.

It is a tragedy on too many levels. Everyone involved loses. Unfortunately, given the climate there is going to be a series of reprisals. Of course, the Taliban really couldn’t give a shit about the civilian deaths as they are responsible for many many more, but will use this as a rational for atrocities of their own.

RIP

There is nothing firm, nothing balanced, nothing durable in all the universe. Nothing remains in its original state, each day, each hour, each moment, there is change. Change is the essence of life. Embrace change as you do life. To fight change is to live in the past.

Its weird, now every movie I watch about the conflict... first kid I see playing with a soccer ball around a base, first person I see as potentially hurting the troops. I was watching this movie this past weekend http://www.jerabekmovie.com/ and to hear the guys talking about how they went there with the thinking their mission was to help people, but after the first attack and all the locals KNEW that it was going to happen but nobody warned them their attitude changed. The movies was good, it is very emotional though.

That needs to be a two way street . If we leave them alone , they're still a threat , thats the problem .

Mm hmm. The Nazis said the same thing ^^ about Jews.

And they had the same idea of wiping out an entire race.

On another note, Bin Laden is dead and ALQ in Afghanistan is nearly extinct. There's no way to eliminate every single one of them.

What are we still doing there?

WAT? this is a BS that was fed to Americans in 1980s as part of cold war propaganda to make US tax payers feel good about paying millions to Osama BinLaden "taliban freedom fighters".
few of people I knew back in Russia went through Afghanistan - many guys only couple years older than me from my school ended up there - many first person stories were told - ROE and discipline were as strict as US ones now, and USSR tried to kiss as of turban wearing animal care activists as hard as US tries now. Nothing good came out if that...

I was fed propaganda too when the Russians invaded Poland with the Nazis. Then they put all the POWs in deathcamps. Then Russia stole Polands land after the war.
