I did not see any purple font, so I am assuming that you are living up to your role as the CLSB town idiot.

Too bad that such move on the President's part will not sway me to voting for him, but I will acknowledge that politically that is a very big move.

So I'm an idiot for reporting the latest news for today. Okay, I guess liberals don't like people posting news for people to see online.

You are not an idiot for report the latest news, you are an idiot for the comment you posted. The thread title is perfectly acceptable.

You do not know me, so I will let the liveral comment slide.

This screams of a desperate move to sway voters...which doesn't make it a bad thing. However, the fact that such referendums have been struck down, and struck down in some majority, in 30 or so states that have held such votes...it may turn out to actually be a big deal.

The best way I've heard it put, however, is that the Government should get the heck out of the Marriage business and stay focused on REAL business...the damn economy.

Social issues are a waste of political time in real terms...the great distraction.

That it is. I am sure they did some extensive research on the topic before they decided to go with it, and are taking a gamble. I cannot imagine it will have a positive effect on his campain to attract more voters then it will lose. This will be a great distraction from his own record and a point of contention against Romney.

TDS, That video is offensive. Perpetrating the fears and myths of the 1950's.

Same-sex marriage has nothing to do with sexual predators. They are as related as a Thunderstorm and a Buick.

If you can't see the difference, I've given you more credit for intelligence than I should have.

What's next? A 1940's video about the Japanese threat?

He's said in the past (before he was President.... or running for that matter), that he supports Gay Marriage. So from that point, not surprising. The timing is obviously not a coincidence as the comments by Biden put him in a tough spot.

That and the passing of the law in NC banning gay marriage just made this a major issue for the Presidential race.

This was a a set up that started this weekend with Biden. It REEKS of Chicago style smoke & mirrors! A day after South Carolina...a state that went to Obama BIG votes a constitutional ammendment to ban gay marriage... PLUS... the day after Wisconsin voters turn out and cast unnecessary votes for Scott Walker that outnumber by double what the 2 Dem candidates vying to run against him in the recall recieved... AND... An inmate in a Federal Prison almost beats him in a primary...and a reem of Obama allies go down in flames in primary challenges he decides to do an interview to say he's flopped on the Gay marriage issue in his personal opinion ONLY.....You don't see the scam?!?!?!
HE gets to dominate the news cycle with the help of a complicent media in face of NOTHING but BAD NEWS for him!
Besides all of that...How do you think this is going to sit with Hispanics (devout Catholics) or traditional Blacks who overwhelmingly oppose gay marriage ?

This was CLEARLY ALSO aimed at trying to get money from rich gays!

I really believe that the more he tries to use Chicago style bullshit on America at large the more he keeps stepping on his dick!.............Thank You David Axlerod!

If one is not gay, then why would one care if Obama says he supports gay marriage? When Tale has Obama's dick in his ass, then he might have something to say on the matter, but until that happens, perhaps it would be in his best interest to keep his own ignorant opinions to himself.

Actually I think marriage started as a means for the transferral of property. It had nothing to do with the government or religion or even love for that matter. And it's not a democrat or republican thing anyway, because they all cheat on their wives anyway. Nothing sacred about that.

Reminds me of the joke:

Q : ) What are the three rings of marriage?
A : ) The engagement ring, the wedding ring, then the suffering.

Everyone should have the right to be as miserable as everyone else. Hehe

If you don't think marriage is predominantly a religious issue you're kidding yourself. It may be that in its absolute roots it was not a religious union (I don't know that) but today, in this country, that's without question the underlying issue for the voting public...the portion which cares one way or the other at least.

Obama supported same-sex marriage when he was running for Illinois Senate in 1996, before he went statewide or national. Like any politician, he toned down his support when he had to appeal to a wider, more diverse audience.

Tom, if that's the case, I'm all for abolishing any & all state recognition of marriage. That would be fair, too. But the current status of civil marriage (state recognized marriage) is not fair nor is it supported by the Constitution.

The churches can do what they want, there's no argument in that. We are talking civil marriage here. It has nothing to do with religion.

It wasn't too long ago when there were laws on the books in some states preventing white people from marrying black people. Nowadays we think that's ridiculous. This is just another example of this same kind of backwards-thinking.

You're absolutely correct and I agree it should not be this way (even though I am totally AGAINST same sex MARRIAGE). But, it doesn't take legalizing same gender marriage to fix the inequities. All a state must do is provide for domestic partnerships. The gender of the partners doesn't even have to be an issue or mentioned. All it needs to say is the partnership between 2 consenting adults is recognized.

Not sure how people can say this was a political move? A bad one if so. If anything it is a promise kept from long ago that can actually hurt him. So much so that many political analyst on the Dems side advised he should have waited until he was in his 2nd term. It was really the right thing to do but one of those things where he really had a lot to lose and nothing to gain. Among the older Dem demographic and as some mentioned the black community also the Spanish speaking community there is still a lot homophobia. It is not like many gay people in favor of marriage were going to vote against him and turn Republican if he did not address the issue.
Politics aside, like Grasshopper mentioned there are tons of rights same sex couples are denied with "civil unions" opposed to marriage. Do not see any reason they should not be equal.

When will you backwards-thinking people learn to accept this?!

Marriage is between two consenting ADULTS. A child is not a consenting adult, nor is a horse, or a toaster, or a car. Allowing gay marriage isn't some slippery slope that will have guys marrying their sheep so they can fuck them without persecution. Gay marriage is between two consenting adults that would like to be recognized by the powers that be as a legal couple with all the rights that go along with it.

If it doesn't effect us, why the fuck should anyone care?

Wat? First what appears to be a racist slur made from his name, then you're trying to tell me he's gay?

I really can't tell if you guys are trolling are really think this way. It's silly, sophomoric, and has no base in fact that I can find.

Sorry, I try to stay away from these threads. Everyone has a point, but few can back them up, including myself, so I typically just STFU. But this thread is senseless.
