Previous Owners

Does anyone have any funny stories about previous owners? The reason I am wondering is because I just picked up a 97 fzr 600 with 11k on the clock. It runs but it doesnt feel like it has the pickup its supposed to. So the other day I changed the plugs and it was running lean for the most part. So I decided to start tearing the carbs apart. Dismantled everything carefully because I have never worked on a bike with four carbs, So I did two at a time. I let the jets sit in berrymans overnight and went to poke through the jets to make sure that they were clear, poke the starter jets, no problem, go to poke the mains with something a little thicker, pokes through the 107.5 main, but the other one wont budge, so i carefully start reading the numbers, come to find out one of the carbs had two 52.5 starter jets in it and had no main. move on to the next bank of carbs and it has two 107.5's in it. The carbs were pretty filthy inside, but I think most of the problem has to do with this. I can't wait to get it back together and see how it runs, but man, people can be so careless!

I purchased a bike missing on 1 cylinder. I pulled the carbs and one carb was missing the emulsion tube so it was running way rich. Turns out the PO pulled the bowls while still on the bike and the tube fell into a crevice in the frame. The bike was cheap because of it.

Would worry a little about that lean cylinder ..... Do a compression or leakdown on i t?

With any luck ..... he "fixed" it and stopped riding it because it didn't run right.

Tom, that's what I believe happened as well. I will do a compression test once it's running again.
