05 R6 low rpm Sputter :(

Hi guys,

Just wanted to pick some brains here.

2005 R6 has started to sputter at low RPMs. Around 21k miles on the bike.

Rather than try myself, I took it to a shop and got plugs changed + tuneup, along with a new chain (it was bad also). Problem went away for a day after the shop, and now its back.

The bike struggles to speed up from a stop. Once I pass 40-45mph, it seems to be fine. The bike also struggles to idle when warm. I googled this, but no solutions are really posted. All I found was that "TB's need to be resynced".

Can a guy get some quick advice?

Thanks.

Check the battery voltage ..... Off, at idle and at "high idle" - like 3K.

It was covered under warranty when it happened to my 954. Cluster was showing a FI light and the bike ran like shit. I don't think it is a big job, a local shop should be able to do it with no problem.

Heard about the FI light, don't have that yet. I wonder if Yamaha warranty would cover.

Only one way to find out, take it to a Yamaha authorized repair place and get an estimate.

If a shop did a tuneup on it, they should have synced the throttle bodies ...

That's why I suspect maybe the battery is struggling voltage-wise at low-RPM.

Does this thing have *FRESH* gas in it ?

True and it was running fine for a day after. It's hard to say, looks like you may have to bite the bullet and take it in for an estimate.

Come to think of it, the battery has been struggling lately! I just remembered it had to be jumped at the shop to ride home, completely forgot. I think this may be the simple fix here Tom! I am going to test the voltage before going to Yamaha today.

I love quick answers from this forum.
