East Dundee Motorsports Park

Hi all I come to you with good news (maybe old news to some) and a favor to ask.

https://www.facebook.com/pages/East-...79312572182662

If you have not heard there is a new motorsports park proposed for the town of East Dundee. (Terra Business Park at Christina Drive and Route 72, east of the Dundee Township Cemetery)

I have been in contact with someone close to the project and they are still serious about making it happen. (maybe even by end of May) At this point they need to see a show of support from riders in the area.

There are already folks lining up to try to voice opposition to the project so your support is needed.

If you don’t mind please do one or more of the following…

1) “LIKE” the following facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/East-...79312572182662
2) Share the page on your facebook timeline and ask for a “like”.
3) Email the page to your riding buddies.
4) Drop a link to the facebook page on other forums you post on and ask for a “like”.
5) Ask your higher power of choice for support

Facebook link:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/East-...79312572182662

Thanks everyone! Really hoping this place becomes a reality.

This would make my move out to the suburbs seem almost worthwhile! Any more news about what they are planning to do and how people can help out?

Very intriguing. I'm hoping the "4 acres" is a typo, cause that seem pretty small to be stuffing in all the types of tracks they talk about on the site. I have been driving by there for years and about the only thing using the area is a CDL driving school and that is just up at the front.

There are a few houses back near what would be the back of the area that could cause an issue.

I took a quick screen capture of the area from Google maps. It looks like they might already have a trail or two back in there right now.

This would definitely be very close for me!

It is a reality! If it takes off, Palumbo owns all that property and could move it to a larger location.

I will be joining and will be buying my 1st off road bike. I don't think my BMW F650 would be able to handle this!

Great idea. That's junk land anyway and right next to a truck driving school. Done and shared!

Interesting fee structures. Hope it's not just a track - but given the distance from my house I'm not going to complain.

Also - I hope you can rent those buggy things!

Drove by a few times - looks like this project stalled out somewhere along the line. They carved a few turns out by the road that were for the carts - but that looks like about it.

Fingers crossed that they get this back in motion!

Any one else have any info?

I sent a couple emails to them back in mid-may and they were pretty quick to get back to me, but I haven't heard anything since. I too have driven by and it doesn't look like much progress.

This is what I got from him back on 5/14:

Regarding Opening Date:

"We hope to be up and running by the end of May. A lot of things need to fall in place at the right time for that to happen, but we are putting in the hours to try our best. We do not want to sacrifice quality or have tracks that don't flow to make a date. I will send you an email when I feel we are getting close."

Regarding the go-karts and what kind of track it would be:

"The Go-Karts would be more at home being described as resembling a Dune Buggy. The Off-road Go-Kart segment of EDMP will consist of a dirt based track with a mix of banked and flat turns. With that said, we do have some ideas and concepts from when the idea of the Park was thought up that had to be left out of the initial business plan. I can not go into detail about those, but in time there may be a segment of East Dundee Motorsports Park in which Supermoto would fit nicely into. We appreciate the offer to help with input! Feel free to contact us with any other questions. Once EDMP is open for business, Don't hesitate to contact us with any suggestions or ideas on how to make the riding experience at EDMP better!"

Obviously, the end of May opening didn't happen, I was going to give them a couple more weeks, and if I didn't hear anything new by then, send him another note to see if he had an update.

After grabbing my new bike I couldn't resist but to drive by this place this evening to see what if anything was happening. There were actually about 5 or 6 guys there so I talked to them for a while. The main track is done along with the beginner/offroad kart track. there were two guys out riding the track and it oooked like it flowed pretty well. A lot bigger than I was expecting. All the jumps are plateaus so they look pretty safe for all skill sets. Some were pretty big (70+ ft) so it isn't like it will get boring quick.

The guys I talked to couldn't commit to an opening date but thought it would be within the next couple weeks.

I didn't get any pics of the track unfortunately.

Unfortunately, due to issues that have not been resolved yet, we will not be opening this season. We will continue to work on the tracks and on the issues until the tracks are in good condition and all issues are resolved. We look forward to opening as soon as the weather breaks next spring!

I wonder if this is a "NIMBY" situation with neighbors or a permitting problem (or a combination of the two) or a liability insurance problem? Anyone have any insight? Anybody know if the owners have talked to any motorcycle advocay organizations?
