Upcoming June '14 Hare Scrambles

Lots of D17 Hare Scrambles next month.

6/1 BET Belleville
6/8 Dirt Riders/WFO Oakford
6/15 FVOR
6/22 WFO Coal Valley

FVOR's a definite. I've heard really good things about Oakford and would say I'm 99% in for that one too.

Looking for a little more insight on Belleville and Coal Valley though. Belleville is around 4.5hrs one way so it's unlikely I'll do that one. However I've got a pretty bad itch to race right now, so I just might be crazy enough to make the trip. Plus the start time for all big bikes is at noon. Coal Valley is only 2 hrs one way so I'll most likely do that one anyway. Still curious to hear thoughts on this track as well. Thanks

-Chris

When I raced belleville it was wet. Do not bother if it's wet. Clay slot track.

Coal valley is basically a motocross race.

Oakford is not to be missed. Best course on the circuit by far.

Of those I intend on making oakford and FVOR.

We'll see though. I am not motivated for it at all this year. I rode my ktm for 1 hour so far this year.

Cool, thanks for the info Jack. Planning on making Oakford and the next FVOR race for sure. I'll decide on Coal Valley as we get closer. Looks like a fun course from some of the videos I've watched.

As for Belleville, I'm going to pass and probably head to FVOR instead. Just not motivated enough to make the drive.

Anyone want to meet up at FVOR this weekend? Eric, where are you at?

Im still here but I'm on daddy duty all weekend. Wife is working 12 on sat and 12 on sunday at the hospital.

I plan on looking at the calendar tonight and figuring out what hare scrambles I'm free for. I haven't felt someone elses handlebar in my ribs in forever. I miss it!! Ha

Heres what keeps me busy nowadays. I can't say no to this little girl. Someday soon she'll be faster on a motorcycle than her old man.

Congrats man!! Figured you were busy with the little one. For sure let me know if you plan on doing any hare scrambles or want to get together for a ride. I'll be there.

Sunday looks better for me as well. Not totally sure what time yet but thinking around 9am when they open. May have some things going on later in the day.

Alright..

6/8 I can't make be because of plans
6/15 is fathers day. Cant make it
6/22 is a possible, but Jack doesn't have much good to say about that race.

6/29 is an MXC race in Aledo, Il

MXC is a non-AMA series that is run by Bill Gusse. I've had a good time at the 2 or 3 MXC races I've done in Prophetstown. MXC lets you do practice laps before the race, which is nice to get warmed up.

I'm going to make it to this race. I can't wait. After that I can prob make at least one of the GP races in July and hopefully the FVOR hare scramble in July

Thinking about the 6/15 FVOR. That would be my first hare scramble.

Dont forget about megecross in mendota. They're having endurocross classes during some of their stadium mx races this year. I intend on making a couple of those.

I'm still pretty set on racing this weekend. My van has a broken leaf spring though, so I'm not sure how I'm going to get there.

I'm still in for Oakford as well. Planning on leaving at 5:30am Sunday morning to get there by 9. Hoping sign-up isn't the clusterfuck it was at Canton. Got in line at 9am and didn't get back to the truck until 10am when the race was supposed to start. Thankfully the race was delayed.

Wish I had room for you Jack. I'd offer you a ride. Hopefully you can get something figured out though. What class are you racing? I'll be in 30C. Anyone else going to Oakford?

I should be able to make the MXC race. Was hoping to find some videos of the course from past events there but no luck. I do like the idea of getting some practice in before the race.

I'll figure something out for a ride. My van wont be up by then. I appreciate the offer though.

I'm racing 30B these days, so I'll be racing the noon race.

It's a WFO race, so sign up should be a breeze.

Coal Valley race cancelled for this week.

They have rescheduled the Oakford race for this Sunday! This is excellent news, and I'll be there.

Glad they rescheduled! I'll be there as well.

Was watching this vid last night of the course from last year. Looks awesome.

Hats off to WFO for putting on a great event as usual. Loved the course but man did it kick my ass. Of the 4 hare scrambles I've done so far, this one beat me up the most. Might have been conditions(pretty slick) but probably mostly to do with me riding like an idiot. Made way too many mistakes early on and it cost me. Just wasted too much energy.

This was also the first one I've quit early. Had time for one more lap but I had nothing left. No idea how I finished so will have to wait until they post up results later this week. I know several others quit early too.

Jack I don't know if you or anyone else made it down but what did you think of that one creek crossing? Probably the first time at one of these races I was truly scared. Maybe it was just me too but man that was a super steep drop.

Threw my garmin in the camelbak to get some HR readings just for shits. For comparison sake, my average HR in a 90 min mtb race last spring was 181 bpm. This race I saw an average of 189 bpm for nearly 70 min with some spikes over 200. Definitely need to work on relaxing.

Garmin data link. http://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/526568376

Looking forward to the MXC race next Sunday.

I didn't make it, but know the crossing you speak of. The time I rode it there was a guy on a step ladder that would push you at the top to keep you from falling sideways of the bank.

Good times.

What the hell? Guy on a step ladder?

Found this video of the crossing I'm talking about if anyone was curious. May have to sign in to see it. Of course the video doesn't do it any justice. They had some thick wire fence running under the water and up the side closest to the camera for added traction. Made it a breeze getting up out of there. Going down was the tricky part.

Here's the address for the MXC race Sunday.

1885 65th Ave, Aledo, IL 61231

FB post said they haven't been there in 2 yrs. Might explain why I haven't had any luck finding any recent videos. Right now I'm planning on skipping the 9am practice lap and just showing up around 10:30am. Big bikes race at noon btw.

How's the bike coming along Eric?

Waiting on new reeds and silencer packing and thats about it. Need to grease all the bearings too. All that will be done by sat night.

mxc is always so hard to figure out race locations. They sure dont make it easy to find info on their website. Im not on FB so i never check their page for info. Thanks for the address heads up! Ill get there for practice unless im late for some reason

Im excited! Woot!

Blah! Im not going to make it tomorrow. My stock 9 year old silencer didn't make it thru new exhaust packing surgery that I attempted to perform today. A weld broke in in the pipe so now they won't join back together in the middle of the can.

I should be out for the GP in july and the FVOR hare scramble. All i need is a new can. Ordering one tonight

Damn that sucks. Well if that's the case I may end up just going to FVOR tomorrow instead for a play day. Save my gas money for the D17 rounds.

I'm planning on the July FVOR round next. Possibly the GP too...
