Hey Folks!!! I'm excited to announce that the 3rd Annual JDRF *Cruise to a Cure* ride will be on Saturday August 27th !! Details can be found at www.cruisetoacure.com
I'll spill my guts a little, summarize the ride and then feel free to ask questions!!
In December of 2001 my then healthy 3 y/o son was diagnosed with type 1 Juvenile Diabetes. Type 1 means his pancreas has shut down and needs insulin 24 hours a day to live. He also must have his finger pricked 10-12 times a day to check his blood sugar. It's a heck of a life for a 7 y/o. Many people associate the use of insulin as a cure. It's not. It's a temporary solution until a cure is found. He still faces an adulthood of complications including heart disease, stroke and amputation. Keeping him healthy has gotten easier through medical research. He wears an insulin pump 24 hours a day which helps a lot. He used to get injections 12 times a day..Ugghh..
Here's where the fun starts!! This years ride will be bigger and better than ever!! Its starting a Zylstra Harley Davidson in Elgin ending approximately 56 miles and 70 minutes later at KC's Cabin in Spring Grove. Raffle prizes, food and a live band are all part of the bash at the end!!
Check the site for details including times, etc.
Do not be late for the ride as we will be leaving ON TIME as we'll have Police support along the way. Timing is important!!
Also, I encurage all of you to pass the website along to family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and anyone that you think will be willing to support a worthwhile cause. There is a link on the site to donate directly if you're unable to join us in the ride. Corporate donations are also welcome!! Wayne(Ocean) was able to secure a very nice donation last year from the company he works for.
Please note:::: This is not a fast paced, rip up the pavement ride. There will be all sorts of bikes in attendance this year. Ride safe and responsibly. Lets show everyone how we roll here at CLSB
