Friends of Jen Ride -September 23rd

Friends of Jen Ride
Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007 @ 10:00

Jen Maxwell, age 31, was seriously injured June 11th, 2007 while attending a Trackday at Blackhawk Farms Raceway. Jen loves helping people and, as a control rider with PTT, shared her skills and knowledge with anyone attending a Trackday and wanting to improve their motorcycle skills. Jen’s accident has left her with a severe head injury and placed her in a coma for over a month. She is now out of her coma and residing at The Chicago Rehabilitation Institute where she is in the care of rehabilitation specialists.

Jen has medical bills from her accident and our goal is to cover her Insurance deductible of $3,000.00. This can easily be done with everyone’s help! The ride will start at Quaker Steak and Lube in Madison, WI. Please plan to arrive at 10:00AM for any final registrations and a short meeting. Kickstands will be up at 10:30AM. We will break into groups according to skill level with all makes and models invited to attend. The ride will be two to three hours long and will end at QS&L where some great prizes, donated by our local motorcycle dealerships and shops, will be given out.

Registration fee is $20 per bike. Door Prizes will be given away at conclusion of the ride. All proceeds go directly to Jen! Pre-Registration is strongly encouraged for this event. Joe and Karen Puccio of Motorcycle Solutions have volunteered to be the pre-registration facility. They are located at 2613 South Stoughton Road in Madison, WI and can be reached at 608-268-6780. If you cannot make the ride but would like to make a donation please contact either Karen or Joe at Motorcycle Solutions.

Please post up how people can donate and not do the ride. Kinda far for me, and my schedule is crazy so I cannot ride, but will donate what I can for the cause.
**edit I see the link now, thank you.**

Update on Jen from Susan:

I'm happy to report that Jen is doing great! They removed her feeding tube on Friday and she ate pretty well all weekend. She really enjoyed her first McDonald's bacon, egg and cheese biscuit Sunday morning. Mickey D's could have made millions of dollars from a commercial featuring her "Mmmmmmm"s as she chowed down on that lump of saturated fat and fake eggfood.....

Jen's walking is also vastly improved. She's up and on her own now and has been practicing in physical therapy walking backwards and sideways as well. Mom is cashing in on some of her "pushing the wheelchair" time by getting rides from Jen now! Jen is also doing some leg lifts, exercise biking and other exercises to get her back in tip-top shape.

In speech therapy Jen is working on writing her name, address, etc. She does pretty well with all of those things, as well as matching and sorting activities. It seems like her brain gets ahead of her mouth sometimes and she gets frustrated because she can't say what she wants to as clearly as she thinks it. (That's my arm-chair psychologist's view of it anyway.) She's talking a lot and wants everyone to listen when she talks.

Folks - An awesome update from Jen's sister Susan:

Well, since you like hearing the good news so much.....

Jen came back to St. David with my parents on Friday after she was released from RIC. They are returning this morning and Jen starts outpatient therapy on Thursday. She'll go on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings. She has an appointment later this month to see about replacing/repairing her skull where they removed the portion at the time of her surgery.

Jen's biggest issue right now seems to be something called aphasia. Simply put, it's a disorder wherein she seems to have the right words in her mind but they get scrambled before they come out of her mouth. She's about 60% understandable and mom and dad found a support group that should help Jen improve.

Jen and my parents will be staying at her place in Chicago for the next few weeks (at least until after her surgery).

I suspect that barring any major complications you will be seeing the Maxwell clan at the ride in a couple of weeks. We're really looking forward to it!

Have a great day!

Susan

Hoping some CLSB peeps can make it up for this ride!

I live in Crystal Lake and will be riding up Sunday morning, for sure.

I am happy to meet anyone who wants to come support this cause at:

The parking Lot of Jimmy's Charhouse in Elgin off Randall Rd.
2290 Point Blvd.
Elgin, IL 60123
6:30 am
Sunday, 9/23/2007
Take I90 west towards rockford to Randall Road exit, go north on Randall to 1st light, turn right, its right there.

Call or pm to confirm so I will know who to wait for. I'll be there. The ride will be fun. The roads west of Madison, WI are unbelievable. The cause is outstanding. Come on out. The weather looks to be gorgeous. I will be on a green 2004 ZX10R.

Can someone post a link to directions to the meet spot for me please? It won't let me. Not enough posts.

Cheers,
Matt

Thank you everyone for coming out! Without you this day wouldn’t have been successful. I would also like to thank Motorcycle Solutions, Madison Motorsports, Slaughter Motorsports, Private Track Time, Don Miller GMC, Quaker Steak & Lube, Motorcycle Performance, The Engelhart Center, and Mad City Power Sports for their donations towards this benefit ride. Special thanks also to our ride leaders today, with the amount of bikes we had to organize 4 groups for safety reasons.

We had a total of 104 bikes registered. With registration and also private contributions we had a total of $2,880 we handed over to Jen today. With this benefit ride and also the collection done 2 months ago we collected just over $4,000 for Jen. Awesome!

Thank you all again for a successful day helping out a fellow rider! No tickets and no accidents today; one mechanical breakdown but he was back up and running later in the afternoon.

I only took pictures in the morning so feel free to post up any pictures you have!

Jen and Dave
