I heard on the radio, there is a company that's putting together a software that makes somewhat realistic speech from what you type into a computer. And they use real actors voices to make this computer based speech. Apparently they took all the hundreds of hours of Ebert on tape, and are making a voice specifically for him, of him, so he can communicate by typing.

this is already done and even his kids and grand kids cat tell its a computer generated voice - so I heard on TV yesterday morning.

Should not have ripped on "Roadhouse" - Karma is a bitch - Even God thought that movie kicked ass

Ebert is a great reviewer, and he recently made some remarks about Gene Siskle that were really touching.

also ebert wrote beyond the valley of the dolls which featured cynthia meyers(recently featured in a schlitz ad). I'll just leave this here and suggest you google image search her...

I gotta say, I am kinda shocked that all this love is now coming out for this guy - He was such a DICK to people and was an arrogant prick for YEARS - I always liked Gene better and even HE was a dick

oh he's totally arrogant, but he's probably the longest running reviewer that has managed to stay relevant so I'd say he's earned a bit of allowed arrogance. Where is gene shalit these days?

Dude can be a prick or arrogant but I wouldn't wish what happened to Ebert on my worst enemy. Dude is eating food paste through a tube for the rest of his life and will never speak again.

And his Sidekick for years died at a young age - All I am saying is Karma is a bitch - People get on their high horses and think they are gods gift to their profession - They watch movies and tell their opinions - Not a tuff job and surly no reason to be dicks and rip on something someone has poured their life's work into by either writing, producing, directing or even acting

Don't get me wrong, I would love to make millions for sitting on my ass and watching movies and then waxing poetic about what i thought but who in the fuck am I am to do so

That was his job, he was paid to be a critic, to be blunt and opinionated. Maybe sugar in the gas tank or at most a slashed tire would be payback for some of the stuff he's said, but IMHO the life he has now is beyond repayment for anything he's said about a movie.

People on this board sit and critique everyone and their brother, some pretty nasty things are said, too, but I don't wish anyone (even that freak TDS) to get cancer.

I agree man, 100% - But that guy was the mean cat of the two and he ripped some people pretty bad - More than ripping a movie - Rip a director, hard to get a job after - Rip a writer, hard to get a job after - Rip and actor, etc etc - All I am saying is that he gets paid to watch movies and then act like a dick? - How do you even get qualified to watch a movie and give your opinion? - Film School? - If that was the case, it comes back to the "those who can, do, those who can't...."

I stand by my comment of Karma Is A Bitch - Maybe I am just a heartless prick

I've never been an Ebert fan. For the most part I found a bad review by him for a movie to be an endorsement to go see it. I never met the man, so I can't say how he was toward anyone, but I too wouldn't wish what he's been going through on anyone.
I believe that the concern and compassion toward him now is out of peoples admiration for his courage as he faces such diversity, and the instinct to have compassion for those who suffer.

"Dirt is for racing on...Asphalt is for getting there" OR "Flat trackers go in deeper and come out harder... OR (With apologies to General MaCarthur) "Old motorcycle racers never die, they just slip off the groove and fade into the dust!

If you want to anger a conservative, tell him a lie. To anger a liberal all one must do is tell the truth!

I think he did a couple other films with russ meyer, but nothing of note. It's not his forte, but he did have a foray. Just saying.

Roger is awesome!

An excerpt from his review of the movie "North":

"I hated this movie. Hated hated hated hated hated this movie. Hated it. Hated every simpering stupid vacant audience-insulting moment of it. Hated the sensibility that thought anyone would like it. Hated the implied insult to the audience by its belief that anyone would be entertained by it."

Randal: [to Dante] Would you grow up!
Becky: [to Dante] OK, I'm only telling you this because we're friends, but sometimes, in the heat of the moment, it's forgivable to go ass-to-mouth.
Randal: [chuckling] Ha! I knew it.

I liked his scathing review of Transfoirmers 2, funny stuff. I think his "attitude" was all part of showbiz. After all, you aren't going to tune in to a mild-mannered, middle of the road critic, that's just boring.
