3 Found Dead in Home Invasion in Darien

This subdivision is less than a mile from my parents house. I hope they find these savages.

http://www.myfoxchicago.com/dpp/news...ad-darien-home

Quote:
Darien, Ill. - Three people who were found fatally shot inside their house after an apparent home invasion in west suburban Darien Tuesday morning have been identified.

Police Chief Robert Pavelchik said the victims were Jeffrey Kramer, 50, Lori Kramer, 48, and their son, Michael Kramer, 20. Pavelchik also said three other people were inside the home at the time of the shooting: a daughter, Angela Kramer, 25, a son, Anthony Kramer, 29, and a 17-year-old female who police declined to identify.

At 2:59 a.m. police received a call from Angela inside the house. She was hiding upstairs and told police she heard a suspicious noise or shots fired in the home in the Tara Hill subdivision in the 8900 block of Kilkenny Drive, according to Darien Deputy Police Chief John Cooper.

When police arrived, they found the older brother, Anthony, climbing out a window of the home and found the three victims' bodies.

The three who survived the attack were interviewed by the Darien Police Department and contacted other family members.

Jeffrey Kramer owns Kramer's Towing in Cicero, but police had no information about whether the business may be somehow involved in the shooting.

The incident was an apparent home invasion according to Cooper who said no one -- including the person who called police -- witnessed the attack although they were inside the house.

A window at the front of the house was broken, but it was unclear if it was broken from the inside or out.

No children were there and none of the victims were taken to hospitals, Cooper said.

Although a suspect is not in custody, police do not consider it a threat to anyone else.

“Yes, there is somebody out there," Cooper said, but also said they did not consider it a public safety issue, and schools or homes in the area were not evacuated.

“We are trying to figure out who we are looking for,’’ Cooper said. “It wasn't a random thing. It was a targeted thing.’’ The deputy chief said he did not know immediately if anything was taken from the home.

Police had been waiting on a search warrant to enter the home, but the family has since given consent for a search and deputies were collecting evidence inside.

Traffic in the area was not affected, according to Cooper, who said the Kilkenny Drive address is just north of I-55 and east of Lemont Road.

“It’s not near any main roads. There is no problem for commuters,’’ he said.

The DuPage County Coroner was on the scene Tuesday morning.

Sun-Times Media Wire contributed to this report.

I just drove by this. I saw eight news vans a helicopter. It's off a side street I take to work everyday just off Boughton.

I was wondering what's up.

This sounds too specific to be a simple robbery. Though it is a nice neighborhood with some well off people.

Heard on the way to work this morning that its possible that they were targeted although there have been a string of robberies in that hood lately. They have not yet confirmed whether or not anything was stolen.

The only survivor was hiding in the closet when it all went down. She was the one who called the cops. Imagine being that poor girl to hear your entire family being murdered and to be the only survivor.

Earlier this morning they said 3 dead although there were other survivors unharmed that resided there, & there was no children in the house.

Fox News just did a live segment that said that the girl in the closet was possibly a teenager, she is at the police station with family & her exact age was unknown.

Before all the Billy Badasses chime in with their "I would sweep and clear every fucking room in the house" bullshit, lets say that they did have a gun in the house. Would that have helped in this situation if someone came into your home and you woke up with a gun pointed at your face? I'm all for gun ownership, but I don't think that it would have helped in this situation.

So if you woke up with a gun pointed at your face, do you think you would have been given the time to grab your shotgun?

well what they should have done is tell the people that wanted to kill them to just just wait for the police to arrive, sheesh.

I grew up not too far from this neighborhood. A majority of the people in my area are upper middle class, white collar Republicans who more than likely own a firearm. It wouldn't surprise me if they were gun owners especially with the recent string of robberies in that neighborhood.

in your case, no.

but thats why you have other provisions.

home alarm
a barking dog
a white ninja
cell phone in the bed room

etc. early warning system that will give you enough time to arm and bunker yourself in while calling the cops someone maybe broke into your home and also tell them where you are at and you are armed.

exactly. if you had an early warning detection system like a dog or an alarm than a gun would have helped because it would have given you the time to arm yourself. But if you are dead asleep and an intruder woke you up with a gun in your face, then having a gun, even with it being in your nightstand isn't going to help in this situation.

They just said there were 3 survivors in the home: the daughter who made the call, the son, & one other person, who Fox thinks may be another female.

Very sad indeed. At very least people should have a dog. That is one of the best early warning systems. I don't own a weapon (I think the last one I had was a M60 machine gun in Desert Storm) but now adays I am so close to owning one.

One thing that I will tell you is owning a gun is a big resposibility as you cannot take back the things you do with it when useing it as protection and those thoughts will last for a lifetime if you do have to use it in self defense.

It's going to be some type of family member or boyfriend/girlfriend...someone close to family.

These things to don't happen randomly. The chances of someone breaking in and killing you randomly is less than 10%.

Over the summer there was a rash of break-ins in my neighborhood and they were killing peoples dogs. One of my neighbors was out in their courtyard with his fiance - saw the guy in the house - ran up the stairs and the guy came to the door with a bloody kitchen knife saying he'd kill him if he came any further. I know of at least 2... but I think there was a 3rd.. this is all within 2 blocks of my place.

I don't want to sound all internet bad ass.. but I live 4 stories up.. I might not have a gun but if I can get my hands on them I am going to toss them right off my balcony.
