Reza's Restaurant

Food was decent. Other than that, fuck that god damn place and the people that run it.

For those who have been there, have you had a problem with shitty fucking service?

Before I throw an entire group of people under the bus, give me one good reason why I should eat at another middle eastern restaurant again. This question is directed more towards our middle eastern members.

Reza's has always been an over-priced tasteless restaurant. I'm not middle eastern, but have tried a lot of various ME restaurants. If you're ever in the northern burbs try Pita Inn. You will absolutely love their food. Where are you located? I'll suggest some nice places in your hood.

You better be nice to America or we will bring democracy to your country.

I've never been to that restaurant but I've been to Pita House (one in Lombard and one in Schaumburg) and I never had a problem with the food or service. I've also been to Salam Restaurant in Chicago and never had a problem there either.

I don't want to make a sweeping generalization about an entire group of people. It would be wrong for me to do such a thing based on an isolated incident, however I see how I easy it could be to do just that. I'm going to try to take the high road (at least publicly) because that is the type of ignorance and thinking that infects our society.

I believe there are 3 locations, edgebrook, oakbrook, and old town. I've been to Edgebrook and the service there was great, food was tasty...

I work by the Oakbrook one, so I'll have to check it out.

Been to the Reza's on Ohio (or is that Ontario?) many times, food and service were good (at least to me it was).

I work with many middle eastern folks and even they don't care much for Reza's. I heard one specifically recommend the Pita Palace (I think that's the name), which is somewhere around North avenue near 355?

Help me understand. Maybe its a cultural thing. I thought it was odd that all the MEs were seated in one room, while we were seated in another. Also didn't like the fact that my mother and baby's mother were ignored until my Dad and I got there after parking the car. Honestly, we felt really uncomfortable there.

Hey Mateen, if you don't mind me asking, what are you?

If there's a Reza's in Oakbrook, there are at least 3 locations. I've never had bad service or bad food at the Ontario street or Clark street locations. Sometimes it's a matter of catching them on a bad night. Happens in every restaurant. Before condemning a restaurant as a bad place, especially for bad service. Try them once more. IF you get the same wait staff and poor service, let management know. If you get different wait staff and bad service, let them know AND reflect it in your tip and don't go back...as to food, try different things on the menu. No resaurant makes every dish on their menu perfect or to everyones liking.
There was a restaurant we went to on vacation 3 times. We loved it the first 2 times, on the third visit we were very disappointed. If that had been our first time there we may never had gone back. We tried it again after the bad experience a year or so later and it was just as good as the first 2 times we were there...restaurants do have off days.

I dont like ME food since I find it bland and lacking imagination. They eat the same few items all the time.

being a carnivore I do love the copious amounts of lamb though.

I hate indian food too since I eat it daily, but at least we have variety. and it's flavorful.

and I went to rezas 2 times and I dont care for it.

Hey Mateen, if you don't mind me asking, what are you?
This is a big pet peeve of mine.
I can't stand going to places where the "cultural" group feels it is ok to be exclusive and act very racist. I see it on a somewhat regular basis. I even know some Chinese restaurants who have different menus and pricing for whites and for asians (I hired some chinese guys at the bank and they would order for us from the asian menu - you got soup, egg roll, and meal for 5.25 - where meal alone on white side (in english) was 7.50...

It just annoys me to no end when places act racist.. and traveling with my spy friends I am informed of it more than I should know.... They think they can get away with making snide racist ass remarks not thinking that anybody will know their language.. Wife is low key about it.. and will maybe just thank them in their language.. I am more of an asshole about it and might ask wife "how do you say 'you aren't getting a tip because I heard what you said you racist fucking prick in xxx' (whatever language it is)" loud enough for them to hear me ask her.

For some reason all eyes are always on whitey when it comes to racism.. but here is a big breakthrough.. for the most part us whiteys are the generally least racist people around.

In this country, whites have occupied the center since the begining and they have kept the minorities firmly (often through deadly force) in the margins. Now that they are moving closer to the center, who are we to get all upset when they do what white people have been doing forever?

Just a thought.

If you ain't with us, then it's just bad news.

I think you just had a bad experience. It's typical in the restaurant business.

As to the stereotype of Arabs and women: Most of the Arabs I've come across (friends, some family, at the mosque) are very hospitable. Especially towards women (ironically). Yes, we hear and read about Taliban's mistreatment of women and teen brides in Saudi -- that's mainly due to poverty and sometimes the culture but not due to the religion. Islam was renowned as a feminist religion when it first came about during 500AD, offering equal rights to women along with monetary and domestic independence. You'll be surprised to know what degree it goes to. Many of the modern women's rights are based on those values. Again, I'd rather have this discussion in person rather than going back and forth on forums.

Unfortunately, much of what we know about this religion is cloaked with extreme news stories coming out of Afghanistan and other poor nations. But if you actually spend time with moderate Muslims who practice this region practically (not culturally), you'll see that its quite different from what you hear. This is a whole new topic that's better discussed in person.

You better be nice to America or we will bring democracy to your country.
