it's actually shrockworks, but they looks a lot alike. I am really starting to like my X. She got a 1st gen or 2nd gen (05+)? I would have liked a 2nd gen but couldn't swing it. got a great deal on a supercharged 1st gen.

I have wondered for a long time why the government is allowed to buy/use cars like this or the crown vic/caprice/charger in a time of $3-4/gallon gas and massive budget shortfalls.

why hasn't there been a public outcry to start phasing out shit like this for small gas getters, like the rest of the world uses?

i know they all waste their own piles of money but even just regular government cars around me are either crown vics or explorers. you could get worse fuel mileage, but not much. There are hundreds of them running around, and they are all driven like gas is free. But everyone is gladhanding like they are trying to hard to figure out how to cut waste. jackasses.

its cause more then likely they cant get any manufacture fleet discounts "and not like 30 vehicles but more like 3000" so the cost of a new fleet is higher then the actual cost of gas usage per term (who knows how many years they figure" but at this rate its far cheaper in there budget to keep the paid off cars and write off the gas usage only. since all city vehicles are covered under the city/state bulk insurance programs.

in short..it actually is cheaper to run those shit boxs to death.

oh no, don't get me wrong. i don't expect them to just go out and buy a new fleet. totally agree, that would be dumb and cost everyone money. but long ago they should have been phasing out the heavy pieces of shit and as they were replaced, replace them with cheaper, smaller better mileage vehicles.

So, ok, we can't go back and change that. But why aren't we pressuring them to start doing this now?

i'm sure they'll make it as complicated as possible for it to be done simply. right now, as far as i know, all the sargents get the 'new' caprice/impalas. instead of phasing out the old crown vics, they go into the fleet pool and are used when the shit in normal duty break down. so basically, squad goes to get 'repairs' and you get a pool car which is less shitty than the one that just went in.

I find it rather interesting they said the crown vics when in fact most departments have upgraded to the impalas and phased out the CV long ago

right, but periodically they sell off cars as they get to whatever the pre-determined mileage, or dollar figure of repair, or whatever the criteria is to get rid of cars. when cars are replaced, why are they not being replaced with small, fuel efficient vehicles? they are cheaper to purchase, cheaper to operate. It's crazy that (nearly) every car the government has is still a v8, and that they are talking about replacing them with twin turbo v6s and trying to pass that off as a great improvement. The whole rest of the world has government and police vehicles that are small and cheap to operate - save for very few purpose vehicles. Couple of "chase" vehicles or high end cars for people way up top but not the whole fleet.

you know i saw a lot of towns around me go to impallas when chevy killed the caprice a few years back. but it seemed like they only lasted about 2 years and now everyone around here moved back to the crown vic and/or the charger.

Not really. We just have lots of room here compared to the rest of the world to enjoy bigger things. Stuff also tend to be cheaper here in general.

You better be nice to America or we will bring democracy to your country.

I remmber reading that a lot of places were going to chargers, since they can come with a v-6, or hemis with variable displacement. This was before the bankruptcies and the depression tho. CV only comes in v-8 version.

I think Polski was talking about how Americans in general like larger cars, not cops specifically, so I was responding to that comment. I don't know about you but I wouldn't want to drive the tiny little shitbox cars that most Europeans drive.
