stitches???

I have stitches in my back right now and they are itching!!!!! What can I do to make it stop? They are right next to my spine, and I can't reach them. I left them uncovered today so they could get some air, and my skin could have a break from the bandage tape/glue. The stupid things don't come out until friday afternoon. The doc said to put vaseline on it daily, and I am but it's still itching.

I don't ride, I cook!

Grin and bear it. Can't scratch it, and Vaseline probably won't do much on the itch factor. When the little hairs started coming in on my back tattoo, I'd lightly try and kind of slap the area around to distract from the annoyance of the itch...it worked temporarily...

Cortizone5, it helps stop the itching and has the consistency of vaseline.

+1. try lightly slapping the itch. keep up with the vaseline/lotion so it doesn't get too dry. also try a cold/cool compress too.

It's too sore to slap. I had a chunk taken out of my back on thursday, and it's already bruised. I can't reach it to slap it anyway. It's dead center, of my back right next to my spine.

Try CALADRYL LOTION.

Caladryl Lotion is a topical anti-itch medication. It works in order to protect the skin and is also an analgesic (painkiller). Caladryl functions in order to soothe pains and aches that are caused by bug bites, skin irritation, minor wounds and rashes. It does not contain any steroids and can be used as often as needed. You can pick it up at Walgreens or CVS.

yes but it's still not sealed. The sides are touching, but you can still see where I was cut. It's closed but the ointment would still seep into it. I can't get in a pool or soak in the tub until the stitches are out.

Oh I hate that feeling. I have always just taken a few extra pain pills or took a few shots or sometimes both. If you are stoned out of your mind you won't notice the itching so much.

ok I called walgreens. They suggested benedryl pills, or cortisone around the incision, but not on the "open" area. He also said to put a 4x4 gauze over it to prevent it getting scratched open when I'm sleeping. I can't reach it so that's not a problem.

I don't think it's you scratching it open that would be the worry. It's catching it on the bedding that would be the worry.

Ride smart... stupid hurts.

Everyone crashes. Some get back on. Some don't. Some can't...
