I think I'm setting myself up to get screwed out of 75 dollars...

I'm moving into the city this saturday, and a guy nearby has gated parking available for 75 dollars. I called the number on the sign and after one ring it transfers me instantly to the voicemail of a pretty gruff sounding dude. As soon as that happened, I had a funny mental image of this guy in a bunker filtering his incoming calls incase one is the Government trying to take his guns. I leave a voicemail.

5 minutes later, he calls me back but his phone number comes up as blocked. We talk a bit about the spots, he wants a 75 dollar deposit, then 75 a month only in cash. What do you think the chances of me ever seeing that 75 dollars back?

If you have any issues with the parking or deposit, just call the city department of revenue and report him for not paying his parking tax. They will be more then happy to visit him and assess him back taxes calculated by extrapolation. Karma justice!

The deposit is in case your car leaks fluids all over the space and he gets stuck cleaning it up. Or if you damage the asphalt, parking stone, etc. I can understand it. If you really need the spot, then just pay up. If not, then tell him you are interested in the spot, but refuse to pay the deposit. See what he says.

I understand the need for a deposit, and its really only 75 bucks. I just thought the whole hush hush situation was funny. As long as I get some documents saying the spot is mine, I'm fine.

Avoid this guy and find yourself another parking spot. He sounds like a headache to deal with and who knows what kind of restrictions you may have to come across in the future. The spot is gated after all. Also, landlords like him always have a way of not returning the deposit.

You better be nice to America or we will bring democracy to your country.

See if you can get a lease written up. He probably just had bad luck with people bouncing checks on him and he doesn't want to deal with the hassles and fees for only $75 a month.

And don't judge people on their voice on the phone. I get told all the time I sound like a little girl on the phone and people will ask to speak with my mommy or daddy still.

Ya, Burntash gets that all the time too.

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!

Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Did you get your mommy or daddy's permission to go on the Internet and be on this website?
