Can you smoke cigars in Atlanta bars?

Going to Atlanta for a wedding next month, anyone know if you can smoke in Atlanta bars?

Also, we are told we will be Nestled in the heart of Historic Midtown Atlanta, whatever that may mean. Any idea of a good place to eat and take some drunks to?

No smoking in a redneck state? Doesn't that go against their culture?

Becky: [to Dante] OK, I'm only telling you this because we're friends, but sometimes, in the heat of the moment, it's forgivable to go ass-to-mouth.
Randal: [chuckling] Ha! I knew it.

thats what i thought. but this was even before Chicago had a smoking ban. but doing some looking up, looks like you can smoke in bars, as long as kids are not allowed. i was in places that were a resturant/bar

Georgia passed a smoking ban in May 2005. All public places are included except:
- bars and restaurants that do not serve children
- workplaces with a separate ventilation system for smokers
- hotel rooms for smokers

Back when IL was cool and allowed smoking in bars, I know a lot of them wouldn't allow cigar smoking. I even noticed it down at SIU.

Hey guys, I'm not a sportbiker but saw this post based on my newsreader searching cigars and Atlanta. I'm president of a cigar club here and 'try' to be an ambassador for cigar smokers and shops in Atlanta.

Rule of thumb - An establishment must be 18 and up only in order to allow smoking in their bar but they are not required to allow smoking, of course.

Midtown area is fantastic and you'll be in close proximity to a lot of great choices.
  • Highland Cigar ~ Great cigar bar with a small humidor and nice rum and Scotch selections. Cigar prices are expensive but they don't charge a cutting fee to bring your own. It is in walking distance to several restaurants and bars.
  • Buckhead Cigar ~ This cigar shop is in the heart of Buckhead, kind of the epicenter of Atlanta nightlife. It is in the back of Dantanna's Surf & Turf but is run independently. You can eat in the restaurant and then move to the cigar bar or they also serve full food and drink menu in the cigar lounge. If you go here ask for Mike or Borum and tell them Tim D sent you.
  • New York Prime ~ Upscale steak house close to Buckhead Cigar that allows smoking. They do a lot of Scotch and cigar dinners here.

If you like craft beers or Belgians and you have the time add Brick Store Pub to your list. It's non-smoking but is ranked one of the Top 5 bars in the US by CNN (I think it was CNN) and it earns that reputation.

I could go on but I don't want to ramble TOO much. Another great resource that I'm involved with is cigarfriendly.us, you can search for and add cigar friendly locations and the site is very user friendly.

Probably won't see me here much more but I hope it's OK that I dropped in to post this. I tried to share some links but it's got the limit on newbies posting URL's. If you want any other recommendations or more info please feel free to email me TimD (AT) C4CigarClub (DOT) com.

Hope you enjoy your visit to Atlanta!
