Need suggestion for a skateboard shop in the 'burbs

Anyone here know of a good skateboard shop in the area? My son is about to turn 13 and he really wants to get a board that he can pick out the components and have them put together. Looking to spend 2 bones or less if possible for a good setup.

Last time I was on a board it was made of laminated wood and the wheels were maybe 3/4 of an inch wide, so I am a bit out of touch...

Thanks for any help.

Sadly, most of the places I used to go to back in the day have closed thier doors (RQ in Naperville, Skate Shack in Lisle). I did buy a new pair of snowboarding gloves over the winter from Zumiez. Chain store type deal, but they have a place in Fox Valley and the outlet mall.

Skating is so mainstream now that you can just go to the mall and get one set up. Zumiez as mentioned by my esteemed colleague above and the Vans store in Fox Valley Mall will set up a board for you. Not sure if Bad Boyz Toyz is still around but there is one in Naperville on Rt 59 across from Fox Valley and Orland Park across the street from Orland Square that sells skate stuff along with snowboard, and paintball stuff.

Most web sites you can build your own

Or go to The-House.com and see what they have for Package Deals

bustinboards.com has (1) small board but they are really a long board company - You can build your own there too

Excellent, thanks for the info fellas. Think we will hit up Shred Shop in Skokie as I have not been up there in that area for quite a while.

Much appreciated

Thanks for the lead, took my 13 year old yesterday to get a new board, trucks, bearings and wheels and he is one happy kid. Great shop and a good group of hippies (kidding...) working there.
